Honours BSC Information Technology.
Oracle Certified Java 6 Programmer, (aka SCJP).

Tip to guys wanting to study or tentative about changing course:
Do a degree that is specific, eg bone's web and app development is way better than IT degree if you're going to be a developer.
My argument was, "Yay my IT degree is SOOOO broad, I can become ANYTHING", yet you know so little about everything and employers want EXPERIENCE and if you don't have that your second best is to have specific skills (Eg, I can develop websites in asp.net, php, (which can be dynamic BTW) , is better than saying I know HTML.)

Goodluck fellow students :)

Dream BIG, one Rep at a time.

I have some of those as well as a few others and I am currently a qualified SAP Basis consultant which is the field I'm in ATM. I am seriously considering doing a degree through Unisa as I have no "formal" qualification even though I have 1/2 dozen IT certifications.

My plan is to move into IT management some time in the coming years. What will benefit me more, an IT degree or a management degree? The obvious answer is the management direction but the IT degree will open doors for moving overseas and I reckon I can move up into management with an IT degree and experience but I cant do the reverse.

thoughts?

Seems like a lot of you fell for the "study IT and you'll be set for life" rubbish high school career counsellors used to spread back in the day

How much IT have you got? If its loads the IT degree will irritate you cause its just more of the same. In that case i would rather hit a PPM or something. There is always a market for that.
