This is usually the cheapest when you buy a good silverside beef roast when they go on special for about R40/kg.
Slice the roasts into steak size portions. Dip each slice into vinegar and place biltong spice in a bowl. You can usually ask your butcher for spice and sometimes if you're lucky they give it to you for free. Coat the beef in the spice. Using paper clips as hooks, open up the two loops apart, pierce one loop throught the meat and I usually hang the other loop on the oven grid and leave it open with a fan on it, leaving the fan on the meat for about a day just to help the outside dry quicker at the start. And then a few days later you have yummy biltong. Just remember to leave a tray under the meat for all the water to drip into. yum yum

When I was younger (and less knowledgable) I had my own special routine recipe for packing in the cals and protein.
Strait after gym I would have a 25g protein whey shake... This would keep me going for the thirty minutes I spent on the meal.
Then I would go to the kitchen and take out the frying pan. Add some oil and heat. Then I would crack three eggs and scramble them. To this I would add 1 full tin of pilchards in tomato sauce and mash it into the eggs. Then for flavouring I would add 1 tablespoon peanut butter, and some peanuts, 2-3 squirts of lemon juice, a few pinches of salt, a few pinches of sugar, and some thinly cut tiny pieces of cheese...
I would mash this whole thing together and serve it on two slices of lightly buttered brown bread.
Kinda cuckoo meal  but it sure made me grow!!!
Sorry if I offend you
Its just my point of view

500 grams of mince (5% extra lean Woolworths)
240grams of red kidney beans (the organic woolworths variety comes in 400 grams but drains to 240 grams and is canned in water)
1 green pepper
600 grams of tomatoes
4 celery sticks
1 onion
jalapeno sauce (woolworths)
some pepper
Brown rice, as much as you need to make up your carbs (100grams = 340 calories 8.5g prot 68g carb 3.4g fat)
Chop onions, tomatoes, green pepper and celery sticks.
Spray and cook a sauce pan, lightly brown and soften the onions, celery and green peppers. Then add the mince and brown the mince till almost ready. Add the six chopped tomatoes, red kidney beans, jalapeno sauce, cayenne pepper and pepper to taste and leave to simmer for about 20 minutes to half an hour.
This tasted like a cheat meal, you have to try it! It equalled three meals for me and I just added rice to make up my carbs for the next day.
Aprox Nuttritional value without rice
1054 cals 139g protein 54g carbs 22g fat

Lots and lots of chilli, a little bit of tomato paste, tiny bit of all gold tomato sauce and worcestershire sauce and some chicken stock cube
I'm trying to cut at the moment and stay away from as much sodium/sugar as I can. Struggling to find low sodium stock. I couldn't find fresh chillies last night so I opted for the jalapeno sauce which tasted great. Will def try your suggestions though.
I should maybe have labled it "Low Carb/sodium/sugar Chili Con carne"
No love for recipes link, i thought it was pretty good ?

Beesting - I don't get that part....tom sauce.....tom paste? Why not just use a lot of one?
If everybody does it, is it still cheating?

Yeah right, and in a Chilli con carne you can differentiate in taste between paste and sauce.......... :noway

2 x High quality cocoa powder
2 x Paprika powder
1 x Black pepper seeds
1 x Chilli powder

You can get those layered spice packs from Mr Spices up here in PTA.

Then you can't use your oven. The better way is to go get yourself one of those big plastic boxes with a lid from a plastic place for like R120 and buy a big extractor fan they use for computer servers. You install a grid on the inside of the box and the fan is installed on the lid, make plenty holes at the bottom and now you have a biltong dryer. In the summer it takes about four days max to dry about 7kgs of biltong.Sting wrote: How to make your own biltong

Nice one
Seen something similar in a Popular Mechanics mag...
They added a light bulb below the fan,(the fan was from a computer PSU 220v) which I guess would speed up the drying process somewhat
Been wanting to make one for ages now, just so bloody lazy
