hey guys...

thought i would start a thread asking you if u had any healthy reciepies that are low in fat and just new ways on preparing meals?

Chicken breast curry :

1 tomato(diced)
1/2 an onion(diced)
600g chicken breasts
1/2 a stock cube
teaspoon of curry powder
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup of water.

spray a pan/pot with spray and cook and fry onions, after 2 minutes throw in your chicken and tomato and colour the chicken(the outside should start to turn white)
throw in your 1 cup of boiling water which u have added the curry powder and stock cube and wait till it starts to boil. once at boiling temprature. reduce tempreature and simmer for 30-45mins untill the chicken is tender and cooked all the way through.

if u are looking for a high carb version add in 2 potato's into the mix.

serve with brown rice and u have got yourself one times health curry.

One of the easiest is Beef Stir Fry

300g Beef Pieces
300g Stir Fry
Maybe throw in some garlic.

Just be sure to use olive oil for the stir fry.

Sorry if its a lame one, but its the easiest if and when you in a hurry.

Give it a shot, you're only TESTing it...

Its simple but quite tasty and you don't need a lot of ingredients..

Amount of ingredients depend on the amount of chicken used,
dice 1/2 onion,
chop 1/2 green pepper,
cut 2-3 chicken breasts into inch strips and spice with various spices and herbs.
boil 200g brown rice.

Spray a pan with spray n cook and brown onions,
add green pepper soon after.

once green peppers are soft and onions are brown, add chicken and keep stiring them around till almost done then add rice and put a lid on and let it simmer for a few min.

Shake it around a bit and serve:)

Lean Chicken and Beef Shwarmas

Hope that this is something different for you guys!

Fry lean chicken breast stips or beef strips in a few drops of olive oil with salt and pepper to taste, some crushed garlic, sweet basil and a squeeze of lemon juice.

To make the tzatziki(cucumber and yoghurt filling), grate cucumber and add fat free plain yoghurt with salt and pepper (and aromat- optional)

Dice some onion and tomatoes.

Warm wholewheat brown pitas and fill with the tzatziki, meat, tomato and onion.

Dont recommend using humus (chic pea and sesame paste) as its full of fat but it does make the shawarma tastier.

Enjoy

Egg Muffins

These are lekker, because you can make a lot in advance and whack them into a tupperware in the fridge, and just take when you need them. They keep easily for about 5 days.

You will need a muffin baking tray.

6 whole large eggs + 8 egg whites
Tub of fat free cottage cheese (300g)
Vegetable of choice (I just use thawed frozen mixed veg)

Mix eggs, egg whites and cottage cheese together.
Add salt pepper to taste.

Spoon a large tablespoon of mixed veg into each cup in the muffin tray

Pour egg/cheese mixture into each cup till about 3/4 full.

Put tray in pre-heated oven (200 degrees)until they rise.(about 15 minutes)

There you have it. Great for grabbing out the fridge - breakfast on the run. Just reheat in the microwave for a few seconds. I usually have 2 or 3 with a slice of whole wheat toast.

I love schwarmas. Where do you get your wholewheat pita bread from?

U can get them from pick n pay, pick n pay brand by the bread sections, but if ur lucky u'll find the one's made by Anat at a supermarket, these are better than the pick n pay choice brand but both are still good. Usually R12 or so for six pita's so not too bad (pick n pay brand, Anat little more expensive I think)

Thanks Beesting.

I have a local (supposedly upmarket) Checkers a block away from my place in North Riding. They never have anything in that damn place. They hardly cater for the health conscious at all.

I will try the nearest P&P today. That recipe of yours has made me really crave schwarmas now. :woohoo:
Thanks again.

No problem... Not to sure if they were whole wheat or just brown pitas but either way they're better than the white ones health wise.

Anyways enjoy, hope you manage to find them, if not and u have to travel to get then u can always get a whole lot and freeze them. Just warm them in the microwave for a few seconds before cutting them open otherwise the inside sticks

Just a quick question about oatmeal. When you are on cutting phase and eat oatmeal, what can you mix it with to make it lekker without using sugar. I
want to eat clean.

Never feel sorry for yourself... Even if you're training hard, he might be training twice as hard. You just gotta keep coming back stronger.

Add sweetener and cinnamon or sweetener and sliced banana. Those work well with oats.

Depends on the size of the muffin tray, and the size of the eggs.

With mine it makes 9 very lekker sized ones.

I just play around with the egg mixture until I have enough to fill each cup about 3/4 full.

I sometimes add a teaspoon of baking powder, which gives them a nice rise.

I've also done them with bits of bacon tomato and cheddar cheese (if not dieting).

They are very lekker, and so very convenient.

I always mix a scoop of protein powder with mine. Makes it much more palatable. And I NEVER eat any meal without protein!

Stew

1x packet of stewing beef
1x Half a packet frozen country mix vegetables (try get stew veg)
6x potatoes
1x cup of Basmati/ Jasmine rice uncooked
1x spare rib sauce (the packet one)

Remove all the fat off the stew, chuck in the pot with the potatoes (cut them in half cooks quicker), through in half water, mix in sauce for flavoring. simmer slowly for about 40 mins, last chuck in the veg just before you finih about 2 minutes you dont want to overdo the veg and lose its coloring.

The rice is easy, put in a bowl, in the micro for 15 with salt, take out rinse and drain with cold water and pop back in for 5 min and its done.

Oh yeah i normally serve the stew on top of my rice and generally stew is always better the 2nd day.
