My wife likes olive oil. It's kinda plenty in the house, might as well use it. But I'll consider Canola. I didn't know i can use butter. Any butter?Pyroclasm wrote: Why don't you rather use Canola Oil or Sunflower Oil? Butter? Much cheaper than Olive Oil. Even though keto is a relatively cheap diet, the nuts are expensive so are avocados. Stick to the peanut butter for nuts.

bms wrote: Furk, how did you structure your keto? I agree it won't be satiety but one must be very careful of those small things that can hinder results.
Like everyone else I guess? I'm probably not in ketosis 100% of the time, just on a fat-adapted diet. Dail net carbs probably come to under 50g anyway.
My method is to workout minimum protein I need to hit per day, the rest of the calories can come from fat/ more protein. If I feel crap I know too much protein/ carbs and fats need to upped. Trick is just to stay in the fat-/ketosis-adaptive mode. I start eating daily earliest 1200 (usually 1300-1500, dictated by my schedule), and final meal ends 2000-2100. I'm really small so I don' need many calories, in fact I should probably eat more but I am on a budget so mainly eggs, veggies and afval. PWO I'll have chicken breasts/ tuna and a egg or two. Protein bio-availability of whole eggs are actually like 100%. And even though red meat may be fattier, it's bio-availability is higher than super lean chicken. I've got some interesting findings I'll post regarding this stuff when I'm at my home PC again.

@Pyro: do use skinless thighs and legs? Or you leave the skin?Pyroclasm wrote: @Furk: If you're on a budget why buy chicken breasts (relatively expensive) and not the legs and thighs or wings? I normally find these parts on special you can buy for R25/kg and I can't find chicken breasts under R39/kg.

@BMS: Leave the skin dude that's the best part. When on a normal diet you need to monitor the type of fats you eat whereas on keto it makes no difference.

Cost per calorie I think the drums and thighs would murder the chicken boob.

Always open to suggestion, thanks mate, have considered it but I'm not willing to go tear of meat from bone and weight it all out. Keeping it simple by what's measurable.
@bms: Yeah dude, keto can be so basic + controversial. Hence the reputation as "eggs & bacon diet" - because it's totally possible. I would still keep away from vegetable oils and hydrogenated + partially hydrogenated fats are still unnatural (won't touch it and I can't recommend it).

According to Cyclical Keto Diet guide, you limit carbs as far as possible on the first 3 weeks right? Then you can do a carb up after that.
What will happen if you're willing to do additional weeks before carb up? Say 8-10 weeks then carb the following week
1. Will i start loosing a lot of muscle?
2. Will the fat loss and metabolism slow down?
3. Energy levels? Up or down or remain the same?
4. Health wise, How is it gonna have an impact on the body?
Curious.
You opinion will be highly appreciated. Thank you

No it's totally acceptable to go longer. I do. Has the benefit of ensuring you are keto/fat adapted.
1. Ensure high L-leucine intake, you'll be fine. Just ensure you don't eat too little.
2. No necessarily.
3. If your adapted, your adapted. First 3 days are the toughest, after that it should remain constant (unless you change the *amount* of calories.
4. Make sure you are getting enough micro-nutrients and minerals. You'll be fine.

Quick reference from a recent thread
Fast until midday - afternoon on off days. I train fasted (1100-1300) the start eating after fasted. Feeding until about 2000. In the past I just had Bcaa's after training, but now I take a whey (and glucose) shake post. If no whey eating ASAP, if whey then I wait at least 30 min before eating. That first meal will be protein and carbs. All other meals will be protein, fat and vegetables.
For fat loss, I say IF and LCHF(or full keto if you can manage) all the way. The only reason I'm probably not full blown keto is because I love my vegetables too much
I am an "expert" on these subjects because I've read the books, keep track of authors and research, and lurk a lot. Actually started about thinking making a IF sticky for this site.

Long time out from the forum. Things aren't good for me at the moment. My plan for the year was to be 80kg by this time or dropped a significant amount of bf.
With gym membership expired in February, that still the same due to finances. Tried to eat clean for several weeks but that became a struggle as i was running out of cash before month end. So i had to eat whatever that was available and its not always the good stuff.
I think I'm carb sensitive cause i just gain weight rapidly. Couldn't understand if it was because i was on a keto or not. All in all, things aren't going well. Why gym if your diet is off? I don't see benefits either to try 50% eat healthy and not exercise. Thou will exhaust thy self and be disheartened for no results. That's just me.
Really demotivated, don't know what to do? Any advice.
