Legs.. Need size...

I am 6'5, so I'm not the shortest fellow around... And well, I want really big legs, although I've come a REAL long way since a few months back, I think I can do better.
So at the moment I'm warming up with extensions, then move to leg presses and then I squat... The problem is I gym alone and don't quite like the idea of failing while squatting... What can I do to overcome this?
What do you guys think of lunges?
Thanks in advance..

I find lunges to be more of a glute/ham builder than a quad builder
Sorry guys Apparently it is true, cause its happened to certain people already, so I’m not taking any chances !!

spike wrote: Hmmm, personally I like to squat first because I like to squat as heavy as i can go. If I dont have a spotter and there's no instructor around, I just take a bench and put it behind me so in my lowest position my bum just taps the bench. This way if I'm not able to make it back up I just land up sitting down for a bit instead of sprawled on the floor with a bar on top of me

good advise. free weights are always better than machines. and leg extensions at the end.
@spike: don't take any offence, i know you guys do bodybuilding so we do things differently, but we powerlifters call that move you do with a bench a 'moffie squat' or 'rugby squat' haha!

The extension is nice to warm up the knees and to finish off the day some of the muscle around the knee. Ive been using it to get up a lagging teardrop lately and its working nicely.

I struggle sometimes to even do 6X 80kgs, so it would need to be super light, I also can not do any leg extensions and leg curls need to be so light as the movement coming down is controlled by the knee which is too painful.
I don't want to jack this any further so just want to ask spike, once the synovial fluid is gone and you have a gap, nothing but a knee op can correct this right?

I'm growing on twice a week. Hammies and quads split. I do extra extensions on the hammy day for a lagging teardrop.
Hack-squats i completely bottom out. I find it much easier on the knees than to try and stop half way.
The main thing for me was the mental block i built up. Never had much leg with small calves and straight back of leg - no hammy. I always went to gym hammering out leg curls etc hardly growing. The biggest change was to forget the weight. Concentrate on contracting the muscle and going through the motions. Slowly but surely. Weight gets added week after week - slowly never forgetting that you need to get through the workout to get enough stimulation.
I now look at my legs and i NEVER imagined them to look like this. If i just applied this strategy earlier on i would be double the size. I can wear rugby shorts with pride!
