How often do you guys train abs a week?.... Once?... Twice? And do some of you use weights or not? :)

I train abs twice a week, but try for 3 times when I get time. For crunches I use a 5kg ball which my partner throws at me for 3x30 reps.

If everybody does it, is it still cheating?

Great so 2x a week is the norm then, I have spoken to quite a few guys over the years who claim not to do any weights training for your abs. I have always just done the good old crunches and sit ups, leg raises etc:

Would you guys increase the duration or add weight for a better six pack?

Here's my theory: :)

I like having a small waist so I don't use weights anymore, I merely used them in the beginning to add some size to my Abs, otherwise they won't stick out enough :)

I train them 2x a week, Tuesday I focus on upper and middle abs (crunches and sit ups) I also do hyper-extensions (no weights)
Thursday - Obliques and lower abs (leg raises and twisty crunch stuff)
I mix the reps / sets up every now and then (any stimulation is good stimulation for abs) sometimes slow and low reps, other times high fast reps.

This routine made my core strong for squats etc. but kept it small, and my abs are not that difficult to see with 12% body fat :)

Dream BIG, one Rep at a time.

It doesn't hurt if you can catch it. Remember where I'm from?? Our trophy case is full of all shapes and sizes trophies due to the fact that we CAN catch a ball. :haha

I train the bastards everyday. Cable crunches, leg raises, roman twists (all with a weight) on Mo, Wed, Fri. Stomach vacuum, plank, side plank, v-sits (without a weight) Tue, Thu. Rest them on Weekends.

If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.

With a weight my abs added nice size haha even at bf of 18% my upper abs was showing. I have a very strong core, do abs every other day. 5kg med bal on roman chair 3 x 50, machine crunches clear weights 3 x 25 and 20 kg roman chair 2 x 20

Always had an overall nice shape on the abs but see that my lower abs now need the attention.

after this cycle my babies will be back hahahaha

Michael remember still when you are doing the roman chair your quad also works a little so it can be that the muscle is fatiqued thats why it can be a little painfull. I find it after legs that i cant do a proper abs session because my core is a little depleted if that makes sense.

When i do legs i do calves and traps. the next day abs and forearms. it works a little better for me though

I recently added squats on the fitness ball into my core workout. Now that works you good. Tried it with a barbell and could only do one set. Bloody hard I tell you.

thats a great exercise. try doing overhead squats (while holding the barbell over your head with extended arms) with a light weight - its the best core exercise for overall strenght and stability there is and if you want to take it up a notch, hold dumbells over-head instead of the barbell! i could do hundreds and hundreds of situps, leg raises, roman chair, twisties etc etc, but when i started weightlifting and powerlifting and had to do these exercises i found my core wasnt nearly as strong as i thought...
