Imagine how much stronger you would get if you got it fixed. Belt will always mask that injury. While it's injured, other muscles and areas are having to compensate for that weakness etc etc

We're still unsure if we're going to open it up to membership. Special cases we are considering offering a membership to in the next month or so.
We're getting very busy here, which is great, so opening membership could potentially cause us issues.
Your mate wouldn't happen to be a power lifter at UCT? If it's the same guy I'm thinking of then we did get back to him

hi beemer. possibly your grip is wrong. wrong grip causes calisis on the hands.
the trick is to grip with your fingers not part of your palm too.

I really try to grip with my fingers but doing exercises like deadlifts/shrugs/Tbar row around the end of that days workout causes havoc with my grip. So tired by then that my grip is shit weak. Luckily the lifting straps help but still

he he he. can be a bitch though. i have the same issue. with so exercises if i dont use the straps i dont work the muscle.
having long finger help loads. i have short ones so sometimes holding an olympic bar pulls it open. no problem with thinner bars .work those forearms a bit more.

how so?
i was under the impression that weight training without any protection for your palm would cause this.
i find it difficult to hold the bar with just my fingers...
pain is just temporary...

gloves makes it worse for me. grip tends to slip more.
the way i grip is as forth. i put the bar where my fingers start at the base om my palm and grip like that.
no more calissis for me.

This could be the reason why the bottom part of my thumb (The 'thenar" I think it's called) hurt so much.
What about using powder? Seen some powerlifters in gym using this.

DJ (and others), would you say that grips are better than straps? I'm buying one or the other this weekend (cos my girly fingers just can't keep up) but never tried either...
Thanks

beemer im not sure. when i was younger i did some mountain climbing. used the chalk to keep hands dry. i makes you skin dry as hell. your hands feel like tree bark after a day of climbing. he he he.
i saw a video ones of a guy that teaches power lifting where he teach students to grip the way i said in previous post. i helped allot though.

I like using those grips when I do biceps, they make the bar lekker thick and it hits the forearms nicely.
otherwise i gym without gloves, and only use straps when I do deadlifts.
