it is suicide...

do you guys think the problem would get worse if assault rifles are legalised?

Yes. We have too many trigger happy idiots in this country to legalise assault rifles.

what is frightening though is the amouunt of police firearms that go missing every year...
they are the biggest sponsor of criminal activity...

Shotguns are good for shooting guineafowls and chickens, but when it comes to self defense you need something with a little more stopping power at medium range... you are not always close enough for a shotgun to do the job properly.

Whoever is in charge will have to do something about the missing police firearms... that is a very big problem and don't forget the theft of firearms that get's handed in.

I have to disagree with u bit there admin. Altough to an extent what u say about the effectiveness of a shotgun at range is true it heavily depends on the type of ammunition used. Having a shotgun with a long mussle apposed to short nosed pump actions ensures for more accuracy over longer distances. By using ammunition from SSG, AAA, LG and slugs this accuracy and effectiveness at distance is even increased. Just compare the difference in length between a pistol and shotgun barrel. Using small ammo like no 5 for example will cause the pellets to spread quicker over shorter distances and this is even increased with a shorter barrell like most pump actions.

On the other hand, the majority of ppl who own handguns are not that accurate with them at short distances let alone slight longer ones. Those long distance shootouts in movies u see with handguns are fun to watch but not true reflection. Yes there are guys who do this for sport etc and are great shots at most distances, but we are talking about average joe here.

Shotgun is great for close self defense and IMO with the right ammo is far better than a pistol in longer distances. The thing that makes handguns so appealing is its compact, light and consealable.

yes, but lets remember, admin wants to pack an AK not a pistol :P

Oh, I see... guess I never liked shotguns and found them impractical. But you will know better...

My medium range gun of choice is the .357 rifle like this one:

Have the .375 revolver and .35 special revolver so we load the 1894C rifle with whatever bullets we have around and it's the only rifle we use on the farm... the caliber is just right for any job. Also, very short and compact design and pretty light weight as well. Can take 8x or 9x .375 rounds if I remember correctly.

Lovely rifle admin! Very versatile. @ thunderbeast, damage depends on where the animal is hit and how much the cartridge is loaded.

Admin, I take it u reload ur own ammo. Coz those rounds are fcking expensive

Yes, uses bullets from the .357 revolver or .38 special... Absolutely amazing rifle and I used to take it with me on the motorbike when going jackal hunting and it's more compact than a .22 but obviously it has allot more dropping power.

ja, but a .375 H&H/winmag is going to completely mess up a springbok if not shot in the head.

I also reload my own ammo

.243
.270
30-06
.300 win mag

I have a personal bodyguard so don't have to worry about carrying guns around.

He has been trained in north africa using gorilla warfare tactics. His call sign is Kees and here is a pic of him showing me his sniper skills:

For self defence I just do krav maga, if someone is going to pull a gun on you and they close enough you can handle it, or if there is multiple attackers, however, regardless if I have a gun and someone has a gun in the distance, this isn't the wild west where we pace then turn and shoot... So for me I don't see the need for one, when I lived on the farm yes it was needed and then we would shoot into the banana fields to scare monkeys away and at the same time it would inform people around that there are guns there.

Not necessarily bud. I dont think all (legal) fire arm keepers have their fire arms for the same reason. I have mine mainly to protect my family WHILST IN OUR HOME. I somehow doubt that house breakers/intruders will attempt to break into my house with an AK.

Even if they do - i stand a better chance with my 9mm then the average joe does with a baseball bat/kitchen knife. ;)

Did you guys know that certain units of the SAPS are trained to differentiate the sound of an AK47 amidst other gun fire? And do you know what their command/instruction is should they hear it whilst responding to a crime scene? RUN!!!! RUN UNTIL FLYING SQUAD AND/OR DOG UNIT ARRIVES.

Ive personally seen the difference in damage done to a tractor tyre between R5 and AK, and lemme tell you - I WOULD RUN TOO!! :S

Haha, so you are telling me they train the SAPS to use common sense... just had to, because I would know to run without needing training.

Might also go into some form of grappling martial ats/self defence training, seems way more practical than carrying a gun everywhere I go. That and the current laws (firing a warning shot lol what?) make it hard to be a gun owner anyway

Sorry guys Apparently it is true, cause its happened to certain people already, so I’m not taking any chances !!

Hahaha nice guns too bad the skin aint bulletproof. Just as a sidenote guys we should all make it a point to have some sort of martial arts training, coz if a big guy gets his ass waxed by a small guy it brings shame to the entire weightlifting community

You know this is a little off topic but I was walking past a Wimpy the other day and 2 cops with some massive guns (i know jack about guns) but the guy had it as his walking stick, I thought to myself, if I was a criminal or just some psycho that lost my family or what ever, I could have taken that guy, released the safety and opened fire on that whole place... How on earth are these people allowed to carry guns??

a lot of them are horrendous pump.. Don't mean this in a bad way MCJ, but a lot of the SAPS guys can't shoot for shit and know bugger all about gun safety. SAPS used to use one of the old ranges my father and i went to, and they would constantly join in in competitions and so on, i drilled a large percentage of those guys in the hand gun competitions.

Huge difference between OLD and "NEW" SAPS.

Also when the SAPS started using that Crap Z88 i started losing confidence in my shooting abilities.
Had the Beretta parabellum before and that was magic.
