I must say that Warburton is definitely a star in the making, managed to just outplay Brussow (who had yet another immense game IMO). Jamie Roberts really took advantage of Steyn's powderpuff defending especially when JDV went off injured.
Barnes had an awful game in my opinion, he should have gone to the TMO for that penalty (even though I'm certain it only curled back after passing the post). Both sides should've been penalised a few times for being offside and going off their feet and Warburton got a bit of a free pass in the 2nd half.
It was good to see Steyn testing the defensive line but FdP surely has had one bad game too many, he nearly ended up costing us the game today. John Smit had a decent game but surely PdV can't ignore BdP any longer, he won us the game in the last 20 min.
Spies showed his good performance against the ABs was just a flash in the pan and is back to playing kak, Alberts provided a lot of go-forward ball for us to launch our comeback from and will hopefully be rewarded with a start.
The loss of Matfield will be a major blow going forward in this tournament and might end up costing us the trophy against Ireland (if they get there)
All in all very disappointed with the performance but very satisfied with the result, again credit to this young welsh side for pushing us all the way
Sorry guys Apparently it is true, cause its happened to certain people already, so I’m not taking any chances !!

That match clearly shows that John Smit should not be playing. Soon as bismark came on the game changed he was on only for a lil bit of the 2nd half and i would of given him man of the match for the impact he had on the game. John Smit should be at his huge house sit in his lazy boy and watch the games from there.

Agreed he's been living off that team talk he gave during that Fiji game 4 years ago, his experience and leadership went AWOL when we needed it on sunday. I reckon it'll go to Burger, he captains the Stormers very well and most of the other experienced guys will be going to europe after the WC. FdP may struggle to get back into the team after this, if he's captain the same situation we have with Smit will arise but just in a different position

If Burger stays in that team you might as well keep PDV as well. He runs around with arms and hair wafting without really doing anything except give away penalties.
FDP position isnt secure at this stage either.
The team knows who can lead and incite them and i'm sure they will have a major say.

Cant say I agree with you on Burger, the guy is immense! His tackle count, carries and metres gained are second to none in our squad. With Juan Smith injured I'd say only Kaino and Dusatoire are better blindsides than Burger at this WC and he's no longer the penalty magnet he was in his younger days.

I also agree with you JR, the team will decide who they think has the ability to call the shots.
If its not Scalk then Morne Steyn perhaps?

-predictable
-kicks too much
-offers no variation
-short of confidence and living off past successes
-misses way too many tackles
I hate how everytime he kicks penalties and dropgoals (the only things he happens to be good at) the media and public harp on about him having a "brilliant/epic/incredible/Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious performance" when ALL he does is kick the ball between the sticks. Bob Skinstad (good player, ridiculously awful pundit) even said once "he's slowly regaining the form that saw him be the worlds best flyhalf in 2009", smfh :pinch:

hahaha, you crack me up. Lambie is good, but I get the feeling he might break under pressure in those matches where we have to rely on having a 100% success rate kicker. He's still very young and I think he needs a few more caps before he becomes our first choice fly-half. I agree that Morne can be a bit one-dimentional but we need his boot at this stage IMO.

Agree that need a good goalkicker but we also need a flyhalf who can ignite our backline. JdV's injury might very well be a blessing in disguise, and hopefully PdV seizes this opportunity to try a backline of
Hougaard
James
Aplon
Frans Steyn
Fourie
Pietersen
Morne Steyn
Hougaard in for the out of form FdP, James as our experienced pivot who can run our backs, Aplon in for the over the hill (at only 28 lol) Habana, Frans Steyn and Fourie were a fantastic pairing at the last WC, Pietersen deserves another chance, and Morne Steyn as the reliable goalkicker

Still Morne at Flyhalf, maybe even James?
Maybe play Aplon on the wing and chuck out Pieterson (bloody useless)
Fourie and Frans Steyn are a given
Looking forward to see what PvD does....

Frans Steyn on 12 :woohoo: Holy crap you REALLY want a slow backline dont you. That guy takes 50m to get up to speed. He will put Butch at 12 and keep the line as it is. If anything else goes wrong he will use Ruan Pienaar/Aplon on 15 and move the rest around.

If he drops Pietersen, the team becomes almost lily white. It is already questionable whether The Beast counts as a transformation player, so I think Snorre has a few more headaches to consider.

Frans isn't that much slower than JdV so we wont be missing out on much and he'll offer James' a nice kicking option outside of him which JdV doesn't. If Ruan comes into the team then we are really doomed

If he drops Pietersen Aplon or Ndungane come in and I rate their tan is strong enough to keep the politicians happy. Not sure what that Beast comment means, elaborate...

From Wiki:
Although Mtawarira was fully eligible to play for South Africa under IRB rules, his Zimbabwean nationality was a sticking point in 2009 and 2010. South Africa has a policy of only allowing its nationals to represent the country, although it has been somewhat flexible; the South African Rugby Union (SARU) officially cleared him to play with the Boks in the November 2009 Tests, after receiving clearance from the country's sports minister Makhenkesi Stofile.
More recently, his citizenship was a minor political issue in the country. In January 2010, Buthana Komphela, an ANC member of the National Assembly and chair of its sports committee, publicly threatened to charge the SARU with "illegally" fielding Mtawarira and have him deported to Zimbabwe. Shortly after the threat, Mtawarira told the Sunday Independent,
“I am a South African at heart. I love this country. It has become my home. It is everything to me. Wearing the green and gold of the Springboks is a huge honour for me. That jersey is part of me. The green and gold flows in my blood. I feel just as much pride as any other guy in the team.”
Later in the year, the South African government reaffirmed its policy that only South African nationals would be allowed to represent the country in international competition, which made Mtawarira unavailable for selection to the Springboks in the June Tests; by that time, his application for South African citizenship had been tied up in red tape. On 25 June 2010, the SARU announced that Minister of Home Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma had granted Mtawarira's request for South African citizenship. The immediate effect was to make him eligible for selection in the 2010 Tri Nations.

100% agree with you on this one JR, but unfortunately politicians are more interested in making the masses believe that they're doing something than the performance of the team.
@Eidolon, I think the minister raised a very good point in that one, how can someone represent a country when they are not citizens of that country? Just amazed it was allowed to happen in the first place
