Im trying to find that Mir and Congo fight on Y-Tube,no luck so far. Is it very new still?

Pudzianowski is a big guy, would be a badass match against Lesnar.

Are their any links floating around internet with the SA guys? Also got any info on like where and when they fight?

The Mir/Congo fight was 107, so the latest UFC

I'll post in this thread when I hear about them, one of my clients sponsor boxers/fighters and I always get invited.

Check this link, this is the best sponsored and organised event I've gone to, would check them out for the next event.

Edit:
Would help if I spell the name right, Kongo....

Here is the fight, bit of a slow stream....

I think that was his only fight so far (December 09) so no, but given he used to box as his only form of fighting experience, and his massive massivness, I assume grappling on the floor will be a weak spot.

Sorry if I offend you
Its just my point of view

Have to give Kongo some cred for not getting KOed by that punch. The slow-mo shows that punch landing solid...

Brok has proved that he is a mean dude, that is for sure. He has not however fought anywhere near the best guys in the business. First UFC fight Mirr, which he lost. Second UFC fight, for the title, Randy Couture, a 45 year old Couture, past his best. He did beat Mirr, Mirr being good, showed that he was a mean dude.
But Fedor Emilianako (the last emperor) is the man. I saw a post here saying he is overrated. My first instinct was one of disgust, because he has fought everybody that matters. I can name them but dont see the point.

I like fighters with a Karate background, like George St. Pierre (Kyokushin), the late great Bass Rutten (Kyokushin), Chuck Lydell, Lyotto Machida (Shotokan), Andrews Nakahara (Kyokushin) and others. Please for hardcore fans I dont want to get into a stand up vs. ground fighting argument, as everybody knows in MMA you need both. It is just nice for a Karate man like myself to see the Karate guys, honouring Karate, and many people having to eat their words.

MMA is the future of fighting. There is no doubt. Maybe even the future of sport as it is growing at a rapid pace, as I have seen no other sport doing what MMA has done since UFC 1, when Roice Gracie shokked the world.

Enough Blood. Fight Back.

Guys maybe you have not seen a full contact Karate fight before. The only rules is that you may not punch in the face, for good reason as there is no gloves worn, but as for skill, standing up check this out. The sound has been disabled. Sorry.

I agree.Brok still has alot to prove, and learn. He's still a rookie...

I never knew St. Pierre came from karate background. He is rated as one of the best at takedowns/submissions/grounwork.Did you see the scandel he was involved in? Corner guy rubbing vaseline on his shoulders and upper back...Still in my top 10

Not a fan of Lyddel although he has a good rep.
Fedor kicks ass dude!!! No question.

As for stand up vs ground game... my $$$ always on ground :) Although I have 0 respect for Gracie.Watching him dislocate joints and pull ligaments and tendons AFTER the ref calls the fight made me lose all respect for him.

Why are they allowed to kick but not punch to the face. Feet are also not padded??? Damn fast kicks, jees.

Bud, to claim GSP as representing Karate is just silly, he's style represents it in no way, I think boxing and BJJ has had more of an influence.

Karate in general is a waste of time, the same with numerous other old school martial arts such as Kung Fu etc. The only person Karate is effetive against is other practitioners and someone who has no fighting expereince. I say this not out of malice but based on quite a few documentaries I've seen comparing martial arts. Also the terrible record pure Karate practitioners have in MMA, not to mention Kung Fu. Quite a few of my friends fight Local and Internationaly and I can tell you now Karate is a dying way of fighting. The punches aren't practical, the blocking is silly, the kicks are inferior if compared to MMA and other styles (Kickboxing/Muay Thai etc.), no ground game the list carries on....

Fedor is overated.... Who has he fought in the last few years, Samba doesn't count, Glass jaw Arlovski, Hong man choi, Tim Sylvia, come on man, Pride is dead and Strike Force hasn't got decent Heavywheights.

MMA, has become a style on its own, try get your hands on Fight Science, MMA Masters, think its called, shows how the sport has evolved into its own style of fighting and compares effectiveness of other styles compared. Don't think the ground/strike fight even still exists you need both to be the best... My thoughts have always been the best fighter is the best becaue of he's natural skill and genetics, the art is just the tool....

I post this with a smile on my face as I like arguing about this, so don't be miff...! :)

Ultimate thug please dont worry about offending me man, dont mind talking and disagreeing about fighting. Firstly please inform yourself though. I met George St. Pierre at the world Kyokushin Champs in Japan a couple of years ago. At this stage you will just have to take my word for it. Besides that, on his website, he says he still considers himself a KYOKUSHIN fighter. He has walked to fight in full Kyokushin Gear. He has time and again honored his Karate master. HE HIMSELF credits his stand up fighting to Kyokushin.

So your line of thinking is silly. Full contact Karate is not the shit you generally practice in the west. Point scoring sissy boy nonsense.

Look at all the fighters with a Karate background making it in MMA. I named them. The facts are against your argument. I will post a pic with George entering the ring in Kyokushin gear.

I will post that pic about Goerge another time as it is on my laptop. What abot Lyotto Machida, Andrews Nakahara and Vitor Belfort (his middleweight comeback)

AFTER VITOR'S LAST FIGHT HE THANKED JESUS, RANDY COUTURE AND KARATE.

I know I am a novice on this site and respect my seniors so will tone my arguements down when asked to do so.

This is from George's website.

"I'm very happy that I learned karate when I was young," said St. Pierre. "A lot of people told me that it's useless in fighting, but they're wrong. I'm pretty sure if I hadn't done it, I wouldn't be at this level today. Karate made me a lot stronger, and it made me flexible and athletic like I am now. When I'm fighting, I'm not doing kata, but I use a lot of kicks and techniques that I learned from Kyokushin."

Look Machida I can't argue about, he's style is karate through and through, but its like Bruce Lee said, its the man not the style... It helps if you've been figthinh since 2 like he has, but he's a dime a dozen... Maybe even Bas Ruten because of he's stance but all other strikes are not typical karate.

The fighters you named including GSP, no matter what they say, their style in the ring is pure MMA, Kicks: kick boxing/Muay Thai Strike : Boxing (even though they adapt for a extended punching style with less square shoulders) Ground BJJ/wrestling/Samba....

You have to admit I'm right about that, Machida is one of the only fighters who has effectively adapted that style. I have respect for he's achievements but I hope he gets dethroned, he is such a boring fighter, most of he's fights go to points... Plus Rua got robbed in their last fight.

I'd love you convincing me otherwise but I'm not swayed.

How can you say what a fighter says does not matter. I know for a fact that George st. Pierre still actively trains in Kyokushin. The most anticipated fight in UFC is two Karate champions, here is what George has said: "Coming off a dominating performance at the UFC’s most anticipated show ever, UFC 100, Georges St-Pierre has put a stamp on his weight class and is pondering a move up to seek new challenges.

With this prospect on his horizon, he is reaching out to another UFC Champion in Lyoto Machida due to one thing they have in common. It isn’t their UFC belts, rather their matching black belts in Karate.

In a recent interview with TATAME Magazine, Georges was asked about Lyoto Machida and their similar Karate backgrounds, and stated, “My Karate style is Kyokushin and Lyoto’s is Shotokan, the rules are a little different. But I think it isn’t the style that makes the fighter, is the fighter that makes itself, and Lyoto Machida is a great fighter.”

Lyoto has become a treasured representative for Karate due to his deep roots in the sport and in his general style in the cage being so heavily influenced by the principals and techniques of the legendary martial art.

With St-Pierre being such a student of the game and the type to always seek out a challenge, he feels that he can benefit from some time on the mats with the much hailed master of Karate for MMA. He went on to add, “I would love [to train with him], because I love Karate and Lyoto is a great fighter.”

Look the West has messed up Karate. Kyokushin especially, is very, very different. There are others. I am not saying though that to compete in MMA you dont need ground fighting, as you do. The Gracie's proved that, but they have also been humiliated by stand up fighters. Look at what happened to the latest Gracie in the video I am about to show you. Now you have to understand the background to this video that is about to follow. The Gracie's posted some video's of how their styles dominate stand up. The voice on the video's were Rorion Gracie himself explaining how standup does not work. So my friend made a video with the same voice, just this time the Gracie lost, with the voice of his uncle in the background exlaining that stand up does not work. They Gracie's have given much, but they had no time for punching and kicking, they where wrong. Most point scoring Karater is nonsense, I agree, but you cannot say the same about the full contact styles. They are dominating in K1 too.

Look at this video. The Gracie's were proud and arrogant, the standup fighters learned to keep low, to watch out for the takedown, they worked on takedown defence and things in MMA now is now like this, YOU NEED STANDUP and you need a ground game, and standing up your best bet is KYOKUSHIN and Muay Thai and gowing down Wrestling and BJJ, those are the facts.

Look at this video of the Gracie getting their own back.

You missing what I'm saying, GSP uses none of the typical karate styles in his fights, I've seen nearly all he's fights and he is a typical MMA fighter through and through, positioning of he's feet, boxing style punches, kickboxing style kicks. The same with Bas Ruten and other karate influenced fighters that have actualy done alright. If it matters what he says, why doesn't he practice what he preaches, go in the ring and punch from the ribs, kick with the heel etc. Block with those ridiculous blocks....

Machida, I aggreed with you, typical karate style of fighting, but he's a born fighter, bet he would have done as well with other styles... Look at Brock, pure wrestler, but he's done well because he is a born fighter, he has the mentality and the natural talent.

I said nothing about BJJ being the best style, I'm and advocate of a well rounded fighter... Did you watch the Royce Sakuraba fight.... I must admit , they did give everyone a wake up call while they were on top.

Fact: their are less karate champs and only one karate champ that actualy uses the style in the ring, even though its still slightly adapted....

In the end MMA owns all...

Karate without actually fighting is useless. Those ridiculous blocks are just form, something you adapt in real fighting to make it useful.

MMA does rule! We agree. Fighters from any discipline must adapt their styles to be effective.

The only reason we are arguing is because you said Karate was useless as a fighting style. This is not correct. To many fighters in K1 and MMA have a sand up base in Karate for their to be any truth to your statement. I dont blame you though as the face of Karate is point scoring, which I think is like training weights without actually putting any weight on your bar, this is sacrilege, a sin, and has made a joke out of a potent fighting style. You can not say Karate is useless, especially Kyokushin were the guys fight, or spar full contact every week. Given they dont punch the face without gloves (logical) but they develop a great stand up fighting base. George st. Pierre uses Karate big time man. Big time. To control distance. In Kyokushin he could not punch to the face in a tournament, yes, because they dont wear cloves, but do you not think he trained it in the dojo. He did.

Spinning back kick, heel kick, side kick, Mawashi geri (head kick from his stance with no step, like in muay thai) all things he uses all the time. Do you expect these things to look the same as in the dojo? They dont.

Anyway I will keep fight talk to my MMA and K1 forums and here I will talk weights and steroids, okay.

I am going to give you my last bit of evidence. I trust you know K1. Where all stand up arts come together, to see who is the best stand up fighter in the world. I trust you do have at least some respect for standup. Am I right. A tournament was held, in K1, it was called K1 vs. Kyokushin. There was seven fights. 3 under kyokusin rules and 4 under K1 rules. Kyokushin won seven nil. I was there. It was such a humiliation for K1 that they never held the event again. George st. Pierre was there. Bas Rutten. Ken Shamrock was there as he was promoting a video game in Japan at the time.

Follow the line provided. If you still think full contact Karate or Kyokushin is shit, the Angel Gabriel could not convince you otherwise. I have honoured Kyokushin as best I can, now I leave you to yourself.

www.akka.com.au/newsletters/Shin200407.pdf

Punching and kicking will always play a part in fighting and Kyokushin is one of the best punching and kicking styles on the planet.

Look at this fight without prejudice. It is in Japanese and the tall slender guy is Kyokushin. His techniqe does not look like dojo Karate, it has been adapted. I choose this fight becaus his opponent Alistair Overeem was an MMA champ a while back, strike force, so maybe you know him, not my favourite fighter, but a decent one. He is on a three fight winning streek in MMA at the moment and is ranked by most MMA sights. Everybody said the Kyokushin guy would lose becaus of gloves etc. etc. etc. Look at the other seven fights if you want. I will not post here again.

Feet are also not padded but a kick does not land as much as a punch. Punching was allowed at first, but banned in 1974. Just too many guys out of training for to long. Injuries. I grew to dislike the Gracie's for the same reasons. Look at my video below to see a Gracie being humiliated. Nice.

Johannes, I still disagree, you are biased and do not see the obvious....

Why train one way and fight another, their punching style is effectively that of a boxers not a typical karate punch. Kicking: Karate is known for their heel and feet kicks, been proven by science to be less effective than a shin kick adapted from muay thai/kickboxing. No ground game. You've admitted yourself they adapt their style of fighting, so effectively copying more effective styles in the ring ??? How can you not see this, why train that way then, for distance control, so take that and lose evertyhing else as it doesn't work ?

I feel Karate will fade out, as MMA will take what it wants from it and hasten the process.I use to Box and have seen the same with boxing.

I feel the same way as you about Gracies, don't know when I came accross as a Gracie fan, I'm from a boxing background, so obviously prefer standup fighters. Hate any type of fighter that takes action out of fighting, should be fast paced and quick decisions, this is why I hate watching Machida. I however have to respect ground whether I like it or not...

We'll leave it at :)

Geez man, you've been round, I have to settle with scrounging for fight vids, I have seen all the UFCs and when I was in the UK got to expereince the K1 fights, must say less of a K1 fan though.
