injury. what can I do was created by ice-rip
I am experiencing extreme pain in my side delt left when I do shoulder and bench press. I am training OT style and this started a few weeks ago when I re commenced my training. I was using the cable cross overs and when starting off I pulled the left cable and felt a pinch in the delt. Is my only option rest or can I take like voltaren or deep heat. Its absolutely excrutiating when I'm warming up but gets easier by the acclimation set. If I'm not training or doing presses there is zero pain. My last option is stopping training. What are my options (if any)

I think your best bet would be rest and to see a physio, injuries generally get worse not better when left unattended

Warm up your shoulder girdle properly, google the YTWL exercises and do them every workout you train delts or chest

Howzit bud! I had the exact same problem, I had immense pain in my right side delt, but only when I trained, and primarily on chest, shoulders and when I did triceps, I tried various home remedies (deep heat and all that) but nothing worked, eventually went to see a physio, I had the total wrong view, as I thought my delt was the problem, but in fact I strained a muscle under my rear delt/rear rotator cuff (some long ass name) and my delt hurt while training due to over compensating for the rotator cuff strain, anyway long story short, 3 sessions of physio (massage and dry needling) and 3 weeks off gym, and I am now injury free, and back in the gym, shoulder is 100%, so my advice, see a physio, and take some time off... U should be back in 2-3 weeks and feeling good! Hope that helped! Good luck

Sounds serious and could be a tendon or ligament. Listen to your body. Any sharp pain isn't good. Even if it dissipates later. Your body is telling u something is wrong. By pushing through the pain u are forcing blood to that area and it then "warms up" the muscle so the pain feels like it has going away. But infact u could be doing more damage to the injury and not know it. Same goes for voltaren and pain meds. It makes the pain less but u also don't feel if ur doing more damage as the meds block the pain. Catch 22. Go have it seen too to make sure and take time off if necessary.
I've learnt the hard way to listen to sharp pains and stop immediately. Hope its not too serious

Yeah thanks guys. Was fooling myself I guess to think I can get away without rest. That's the tough part. Not training for 2 -3 weeks. But thanks for all the advice guys

As mentioned above 99% of the time its those little muscles under the delt, warm up properly, so those strengthening exercises, and tame your ego...
