2 Sessions a day? was created by LSJ
Hi all, I'm thinking of splitting my gym routine in two. Bit of cardio in morning and weights in evening. Biggest reason is that every second twit started to gym as new years resulution and I just dont seem to get anything done. Must I change my diet or can I just amend it a bit?

Is this a good or bad idea? Just checking, please feel free to comment. Just a thank you shout out to from Dirk Greef for his diet and Conan for the weights program specifically. I've gained about 9kg in muscle, fat is somewhere below 14% and my bench power went up by 25kg to name one. And I did this on nothing but whey proteien. (for the moment!) Thanx guys

Always a pleasure bud, i see no reason why not ... but will wake with a serving of whey before doing your cardio to spare muscle and then breakfast an hour later?

Nothing worth doing is ever easy.

Ya , why not , as Dirk said . Another way to do it would be train in the morning when the gym is quiet and do your cardio at night (at gym or at home) . But then eat before you train in the morning ......

The guys that I know is very much against it, the general feeling is that when doin cardio in the morning you use a lot of energy which is not easily made up through the day, and I'm already suffering to eat enough! On the weights training in the morning theory, a guy (who knows very well what he is talking about) told me that your energy levels in the morning is the lowest of the day?

Doo it.

When I'm cutting I split my routines, cardio in morning around seven and weights at nights around eight.
It just fits in with my schedule, and works great!

As far as the diet goes just ammend your meals and sups so you have appropriate pre- and post- workout nutrition.

Sorry if I offend you
Its just my point of view

Aren't your natural test levels the highest in the morning?? And also i would say the longer the day goes on the more tiered you would get thus lowering your energy levels.

i am training twice a day at the moment,i am doing Max ot training at 60-6:40 in the morning and then max ot style cardio from 6:40 - 6:56. i go back at 2pm and do another session of max ot style cardio except i use the cross trainer in the afternoons where as in the morning i use the bike... the reason i do cardio after my weights is so i know i am depleating my muscles of glycogen and when i have my post work out carbs i know that all they will be doing is replenishing glycogen stores and i wont be spilling over on my carbs. in the afternoon i alternate between abs and calves before my cardio... monday :abs, tuesday: calves, wednesday abs, thursday calves, friday abs, then monday calves and so on so forth.... just remember keep your cardio short and intense and use it as a tool not as the main source of fat loss, clean diet and cardio can produce amazing results. just remember with short intense cardio session try and push yourself each session so for instance u do 100cals and 1km in the first session of the week, the 2nd session should be for 105cals and 1.05km... it seems slight but at the end of say 6 weeks u have increased your fitness levels,u have burned extra calories and u have gotten your heart rate up sky high and its all in the same period of time (mine is 16mins...might consider pushing it to 20mins each session as of next week) write all these details down so u know that u are progressing from session to session....

Kx, I've heard this as well but its very short term and if ur diet is good u should have more 'stamina' in the afternoon. Thats what I think anyway.

Thanx DJ, sounds like a plan. I try to do some abs every day, even if only 1 exercise. Will keep it intense but short, love rowing and hate the bike:lol: Will stick to the plan and see what happens. Will however take Inja's advise and revise the diet a little.

Ive recently split up my routine, training 5 days a week twice a day. But I have reduced my training time to 40 mins. Training each muscle group by itself (just biceps or just shoulders or just chest)

I am doing this mainly because at my new job there is a gym across the road, so I do my first session during lunch, then the second after work. So out of the 10 gym sessions 7 sessions are weight training and the remaining 3 is cardio.

So far I have seen nice progress compared against my old routine. I had to increase my food intake, and the first 2 weeks was hell, but once you get into it its not so harsh.

If you going to go for it, I would recommend you track your progress, and after 3 months, have a look and see what effect it had on you.
