1. Least amount of strain on lower back
2. Least amount of impact on the legs (legs are getting hammered enough on the other days)

Deadgoat wrote: The top part of RDL stresses the lower back like no other exercise, but doesn't stimulate quads. CDL stresses back and quads so I think you need to look at other exercises. What are you trying to achieve or are you looking to do a compound exercise just for the sake of doing one?
Deadlifts is 1 of the 5 workouts i want to incorporate into my back workout day. Im just deciding between these 2 forms of deadlifts. I have done 2 weeks of each so far to make up my mind but im still on the fence here. The RDL has a constant strain on the back while the CDL is bit less. The CDL on the other hand has more impact on the legs. I have 1 leg workout day a week where i hammer them and i still do cycling as a sport so dont want to work them any more than i have to on other days. Feels kak if your legs are in a permanent state of fatigue. I guess its a catch 22 here......
I currently have the following in my back workout day:
1. Lateral pulldown
2. T bar row
3. 1 arm rows
4. Deadlift
5. Rear deltoid machine
You can suggest something else if you think deadlift is not totally necessary. Just thought adding a compound excersice for back is great for overall conditioning.

Personally I would put CDL at the start of the back day, that's one exercise that you need to keep strict technique throughout, especially when the weight starts to increase - otherwise injuries will definitely happen.
Also - why no weighted chin ups or pull ups on back day? They're guaranteed too put huge slabs of muscle on!
