higer reps vs strength loss was created by MCJ
Hi guys
I predominantly train in the 4-6 rep range. Made nice gains etc but feel a little plateau rearing its ugly head. My shoulder is also acting up again so I'm thinking of using little lighter weights and higer reps 8-10 range.
1. How much strength do I stand to lose with higher reps?
2. I usually start with the heaviest weight in correct form and stick to that weight, pushing for extra reps as weeks go by and adding weight as strength increases. Should I use the same approach with the higher reps?

u can loose like 15-20% in poundage but what u loose in poundage u make up in volume... for eg.
100kg for 4-6 reps means u are moving 400-600kgs for example.
if u go for to 80kgs and do 8-12 reps u are moving 640 - 960kgs... more volume with less weight actually doesnt mean u are gonna loose strength, just means u can move the same if not more weight just takes u longer to do it

Yeah I get what ur saying dj.
I've also changed my workout routine a lil. By that I mean training different muscle groups together than before. So in YOUR opinion that and the increased reps should be a nice change?

You could also look at cycling your styles over 16 weeks.
Strength Phase, Growth Phase, Power Phase then finally a conditioning/fat loss phase, then start again at strength again.
When you start at strength again you can use the same exercises but will be (hopefully) stronger than 16 weeks ago and can use heavier weights - its pretty simple stuff but works very well.

Damn!! What a workout! Insane pump! Endurance just a bit crappy though as I'm doing double the amount of reps as usual. Also trained chest and biceps together. Haven't done that in almost a year. This switch was seriously fun!

if your shoulder is acting up i would lower the resistance or weight used, but this is an interesting debate...
does the shoulder feel like it's delocating?
