So i came down with flue on Thursday evening which meant i skipped training on Friday, so i basically spent the whole weekend sitting nursing myself back to health and sleeping and yesterday i was feeling good, today even better.
i was just wondering if its safe for me to return to gym, since i know it can place a lot of strain on your heart training when you have flue, cold etc

But trust me some heavy weights, with good rests between, you will be ok... I don't like to train if i'm not at least 90% better or else I find the last bit of the flue just doesn't go away.

Can't work out how, someone can go into gym -> do cardio, help grow their lungs then head outside and smoke a cigarett.
After all the years I have stopped, I still feel every day i'm doing a workout i'm helping rid myself of that crap.

So back to what i'm saying, by smoking you are reverting this effect and you will not have the same amount of oxygen as a non smoker.. you will also struggle when taking 'deep breaths'

I Smoked for years. Smoke Fit the works.
When i stopped i went to see a pulmanologist for a full checkup.
He said your lungs are created a certain size. If they are big you have sporting capabilities not available to everyone. IE You can run because you have big lungs - not you get big lungs from all that running.
Inside that lung-capacity graph there is a triangle which is considered the norm. With my 22 years of smoking i had 2 liters more than the average Joe. The only difference was that last 5% as you exhale where the graph takes a cerious dip in stead of following the gradual decline.
Now i'm just waiting for the ten years to pass for the effects of that last cigarette to clear.
Smoking makes the Alveoli brittle. Eventually the are rock hard and cant get oxygen into your system - they die.

Allen Carr is brilliant to help stop smoking, I know a few people that currently using his audio tapes after reading his book.. I also used a type of therapy, but more NLP (neuro linguistic programming) I was able to stop biting my nails, stop drugs, stop cigaretts, booze, etc..
However with the current Rugby and the second rate my team has been playing I have adopted the biting nail habit again, and this time I'm making catch up for all the years I have stopped, bhwhahaaaa...

Doc said my haert muscle got damaged. You dont want this bud

Completely agree with this train of thought.
Influenza is also typically characterised by joint pain and moderate to severe muscular pain. You myocardium ( heart ) is a muscle. Any strain or stress placed on a muscle during a bout of Infleunza, especially on the myocardium will result in a myocarditis and could cause a myocardial infarction and this is one of the reasons why athlelets suddenly just collapse and die
