Could I ask why u r looking for a belt anyway? cause if u don't have any proper reason, these belts are not really a choice !!!! if u r not strong enough to go heavy on deadlifts or squats, just weights and see... belts will prevent your core muscles to become that strong that u can lift the loads u wanna lift ... in summary: if u can't do it without a belt - DON'T DO IT !!!!!!!!

Dinamo, I agree with your whole theory, nothing wrong with it. I'm however not a bb but I'm into powerlifting. So the belt have to comply with certain standards and it does give a few extra kilo's on the day. And a few extra kg's is all you need...

Howzit...dunno if you have since come right with this...but springbok pharmacy stock the "muscle science" version which is pretty decent.Otherwise there is someone in JHB that has them "custom" made but at a price. Personally I think the muscle science ones are more than decent enough.
As for the comment on your core muscles becoming "lazy" when using a belt. There lies some truth in this however the belt enables your stabilizing muscles to actually push harder again the belt as apposed to nothing. It already takes a massive amount of control from your core muscles to stabilize a heavy weight...thus every little bit extra helps to prevent injury and make yourslf stronger overall;)

In my opinion it depends on how your training routine is set up. I like to mix up days of lighter weight higher reps to get that burn going and days where i go as heavy as possible to get a bit of strength training.
On the heavy days I think a weight belt can be useful in that it allows you to push harder without injuring yourself (whether it be pulling a muscle in your lower back or a hernia). If you got a spotter and a weight belt you can almost definately push out a good few reps of your previous one rep max (with good form).
Just beware the stiffness that comes after this lol. I made the mistake of going camping for a week after a leg session like that. Not fun.

I take it your also going to SAs. There are some guys that sell the stuff at the venue, bought mine there 2years ago. Otherwise i would suggest you call one of your local refs.
