Hmm, I have not been doing that, but will be soon as soon as it shifts to winter so I'm fit enough for some big surf.

Not as hectic as you think.. you pretty weightless in the water. If anything
I noticed it helps with been stiff the next morning..

Normall keep it to 10 laps...Weekend sometimes 20-40.

maybe 2-3 times a week...

You will kak the first week...Then after you get the breathing right..It rocks like a crack pipe

My kids do 3-6 Km 5 times a week! And thats not just easy strokes either.

I try to swim afterwards but just to cool down, except when i work legs for the fear of drowning... but i haven't found it helps with cutting and most swimmers i've noticed look more bulky

Seriously.. doesnt matter if you do legs and all that..

Feels better afterward.

The swimmers (bulky) ones... Pretty much just swim , no weight training what so ever
or dieting ..

Go to the age group Galas held every month in your region. Show me those bulky swimmers. They are muscled and well defined but definately not bulky.

butterfly will thicken your back nicely. Ofcourse its all down to rest / nutrition / intensity, etc.

Helps tremendously!
Back and shoulders get width, but you get some nice pecs from fly.

Ja, also when I surfed everyday and that side to side crawl action caused such nice abs. Will see if I have a photo here of me years ago

Hey Acid; guys.

Im currently training for a triathlon - (mud man series) - 375m swim; 10km trail bike & 2.5km trail run.

Have been swimming 3 times a week and i gotta say that nothing comes close to the total cardio that swimming gives you!

My 1st day i could barely swim 50m, but 3 weeks on and im swimming 200m without a break. You're so right with the getting your breathing rhythm right tho - it plays such a huge part.

Couldnt do it after my weights though, so i swim in the mornings & lift in the afternoon.

Pain is weakness leaving the body

Pictures

+/- 13 years ago before I was into gear

Excuse the small photos, just doubt anyone wanted to see any lower as I wasn't kind of erm, not dressed for the ocasion :P

But as you can see that was from surfing / swimming, you stay lean all year round and you get a defined body, without gear / supplements, etc.

I was refering to what Relentless said.

I dont see bulky guys.. Fat...yes.....

Swimming works everything..

I do 5 length butterfly then 5 breast stroke .. (unless I do 20 or 40)

But it def keeps you lean ..

I shit when I train shoulders and go swim... But afterwards I feel 100%.

I recommend it to anyone who is sick of the boring cardio..aka bike, treadmill.

@Rowan

My breath rhythm is pretty good..

Just butterfly and and spinning yourself round and pushing off the wall
I have not tried yet.. (without drowning )

when i said bulky i didn mean big as in muscular big.Outside my gym there's a pool and group of under 18 western province swimmers who swim there for training but some of them are fat no abs, i've only seen one who is lean... But i agree with pump as to the abs, when i swam for a club it helped for my abs but i've always had abs so i'm not sure if it helped with the cutting or just building abs...

but this is all just my experiences
