insane calve work out was created by Empire
ok,hows this for a calve work out,u can do it on the standing or seated calf machine,u need to do it with perfect form no bouncing,go up hold for 1sec,go down hold for 1sec repeat. do 40% of your usual weight, your aim is to hit 75 reps. if you stop half way through take a 10sec break and get back to pushing to those 75 reps. so ie u get to rep 20 and cant lift anymore, stop for 10 seconds and go until failure,u might only get 5 reps out but then stop for 10 seconds and carry on until u meet that 75 rep mark. once u can push those 75 reps with relative ease go for 100reps... once those 100reps can be done with similar ease as the 75 up the weight. note this should be only done once a week... a mate was telling me about this and then i saw it on another forum last night so i thought i would post it up and see what u guys think?

sounds like an interesting recipe for calf cramp in the middle of the night and the Comrades hobble the next day!

What I find interesting / question is WHY the high volume with light weights?

Calves are tough, they walk all day and depending on how mobile you are, they do hundreds of reps a day.

Is this just a "shock" workout to force the calves to respond?
Reg Park was also a high rep fan. In 1991 he had me doing 3 x 30 rep sets, split by 30 seconds full stretch.

It burnt like hell!
My calves are better, but still crappy compared to my thighs.

Regardless, I'm keen to give it a try.

well i wouldnt say that its light weight,i do 140kg seated calf raises, so i mean +/- 60kgs is gonna burn like a mofo esp for 75 reps. look once u can do 75 reps then bump it up. its a recipe for progression...i recon its gonna hurt me tomorrow when i try it out :P

Try this... If this doesn’t make your calves grow then nothing will. Do this twice a week.

Start off
Get a standing clave raises machine
2 x 30 Rep maximum weight you can handle
4 x Cut the weight in half. Do your first 10 reps by yourself. Once you hit 10 get your training partner to put his hands in the pads which are on your shoulders. You get him to pull down and just offer you enough resistance to get the weight up on each rep. You do this to failure for each set. So its 10 reps of 50% of your maximum and then as many as you can with your budding hanging onto the machine.

3 x Failure seated calve raises or calve pressed on the leg press machine.

Try that out for 6 weeks and you'll see some serious progress

Ok I did the 75 rep workoutn last night, with seated calf press. I got to 50 reps before the burn became too much (maybe I sould go a bit hevier next time) took 2 breaks to get to 75.

Nice burn but didn't feel pumped so I did the same routine with standing calf press.
This time I had to do seven sets to get to 75 reps i.e lots of breaks and burnt like hell.

The 1-second stretch & 1-second contraction definitely forces good form.
Today I can feel I had a good session if I squeeze / contract my calves, but no cramping or hobbling.

As I said, I was doing the Reg Park thing, 3 x 30 with stretching between. It's quite intensive. The stretching between seems to make it burn more. So 50 wasn't to much of a push, but I recon I went a little to light.

When I did it standing, I failed at every 10 reps as well.

Would this be affective for size? Sounds like endurance. . .

@dj how many sets do you do of 75 reps the way i read it it looks like you only do one set like this and thats it no other calf exercise doing this once a week is this enough to make them grow?

I wouldnt do just the high reps thing. My calves grew very nicely with these two different workout.
1- seated calf raises, partner fights ur first 12 reps and then u do 12 on ur own.(fighting means that he pushes the bar wer the weights are on down.)
Then super set with 20 slow reps on standing calf raises emmediately folowed by 100 fast reps.

2-Seated single leg raises,12 per leg,pause for 12 seconds,8reps per leg,pause for 12 seconds,4reps per leg.
Super set with toe presses on the leg pres machine,12 reps hold for 12 x 5.
Finish off with a drop set starting at 240kg. 8 reps, drop 40kg,8 reps, drop 40 kg,8 reps drop 40 kg,8 reps, drop 40,blah blah all the way down to only 40kg on the machine.

This will work.
