I have a problem that has been aggravating me now for 2 weeks. I have terrible Neck and upper back pain, it feels as though it is muscular but not 100% sure, almost as if my head is too heavy for my neck. When i get the missus to give it a massage i dont ever feel any muscle soreness, so i'm at a loss. It started after a went heavy on barbel shrugs... i think.
Please, any advice? Also i dont wanna just go to a GP who will just give me painkillers and more than likely just tell me to come back in 2 weeks if the problem still persists
thanks

If its pure rehab you require then stick to the physio, but for something more acute like that give your local Chiro a call.
I see alot of neck and upper back pain daily and as a Chiropractor am a specialist in musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, particularily involving the spine.
What area are you and i can prob recommend someone?
peace

Im in my 6th year now, finishing up my student internship... 24 patients to go!
But will unfortunately still be stuck at tech next year while I complete my Masters thesis.
Dont personally know any of the Chiro's in your are but try www.chiropractic.co.za to find one convenient for you. If only you were in Durbs, i could have a look myself

Raven what you're looking for is a TENS unit, most med supply companies should stock it. They can be had for around R200 - R500.
could u point me in the right direction as to where i can get one... just googled it, but no luck in SA

Happy i know of a Chiro in Linksfield (that should still be ok for you, right?) swear by him but need to scratch for his number.
dude if he's good i'll go there, tried one in the clinic opposite Sandton medi Clinic, and he was a waste of time. Went for 10 sessions, cost my R2800 and i was no better than when i first went

Havok, Physio's are rehabilitation specialists, they are most effective when one is recovering from a major injury or post-surgery, while they can help with muscle related injuries they are actually not diagnosticians, and as we don't yet know what as wrong with Raven i would strongly recommend someone with those skills. If it turns out to be more of a joint related injury (as Raven suggested when he said it doesnt feel like his muscle) then the related joints, in this case the Thoracic spine's facet joints, should be assessed and treated appropriately... Hence the Chiro recommendation (Spinal specialists)

I promise it really aint possible to slip and break your neck, and if you do think so then you'd better start training those damn traps fella!
You just need to find a Chiro you're comfortable with and able to relax around...
I guess its one reason i cant go too made on the gear, dont wanna get too big and start scaring off patients

Charlton should be able to help you with that, but it can be a pretty gruelling recovery. To strengthen tendons you need to focus on eccentric contractions... but if its painful and inflamed your first stop is ice ice ice and rest
School? or Varsity?
