If you buy into the calorie in vs. out theory, i should lose 0.5kg a week.

Also remember the calorie counts on various equipment differs. You may be burning less than you think you are or even more. When I did bike on my bike last year, a 45 min session would tell me I burnt five hundred calories which is definately far off as opposed to the bike at the gym which would tell me I burnt only two twenty calories. So dont count the calories and rather aim for distance and time or RPM and time

and i will burn about 290 calories in 20mins at that so your 1 hour vs my 20mins, i'd go for 20mins

Why dont you rather do twenty min of HIIT and you should burn around the same number of calories and Im sure you will feel better after a HIIT session as opposed to a stroll.
I already do HIIT cardio 4x week first thing in the morning. I am looking for a low intensity workout to do in the evenings, to increase fat burning without overtraining.

ummm but your leasurely stroll might not get your heart rate up,for my cardio i walk at 5.0km an hour at a 10-12% incline and i find thats more than enough to get my heart rate into the 150-160 bpm range...
Why do i have to elevate my heart rate? Surely as long as i'm burning enough calories to create a BMR deficit, i will lose fat, isn't that the theory?

well think about it dude, when your get your heart rate up you heat your body up,your body uses more fuel and therefore u burn fat,and it only takes u 20mins instead of an hour...
Exactly, so the calorie defict theory is bogus.

Its not bogus if the cardio is HIT or HIIT or even moderate intensity
You can't just add a corollary, and say you have to do X Y and Z as well in order for the theory to work.
The theory is if you create a calorie defict you will lose weight, and it's flawed.

"When it comes to "real world" fat loss, few people have more experience than Chris Aceto. A successful bodybuilder and nutritionist to some of the top pro bodybuilders in the world, Aceto is a firm believer in morning cardio. He unequivocally states, "The fastest way to tap stored body fat is to do cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach."
Aceto believes that looking at calories only in terms of energy in vs. energy out is "limited thinking." He asserts that there are more factors involved in "real world" results than just energy balance. This all comes back to the old argument, are all calories created equal? "Absolutely not!" Aceto declares. "A calorie is not just a calorie and exercise physiologists ‘freak out’ when they hear this."
"These guys are working from the assumption that it’s just a matter of calories in vs. calories out, period," Chris continued. "With that line of reasoning, they’d be forced to say that if I consume nothing but candy bars and Coca-Cola, and take in 100 calories less than maintenance, I’d lose weight. We know it’s not that simple. You also have to account for ratios of carbs, protein, and fat. Then there’s meal frequency too: From real world results we know you put down more muscle mass from 5 or 6 meals a day than from 3 meals a day. There are more things involved than just calories."

Just for the record you need to keep research broad and be critical of everything you read. This thing about five to six meals vs three meals is controversial so you need to be open minded with regards to everything in life

You won't find Jay Cutler doing HIIT, he'll tear an ACL.

What works for them is very different to what works for you...
Sorry if I offend you
Its just my point of view
