Hey guys

When doing Lat Pull Downs...
Do YOU do them to the front (touching your chest), or to the back (Behind your neck)???
I have just seen so man guys doing them different ways, so thought it would be interesting to see the feedback.

Give it a shot, you're only TESTing it...

to the front to activate you're lats more :)

Train harder than the guy next to you and one day, no-one will be able to touch you

Depends what you trying to achieve, behind the neck is dangerous if not done with good form, there is new equipment out that helps to do these moves safley..

one must combine them to hit varies parts of the back...

once again all depends on where you require more work to be done...

I usually rotate between the two styles.

To the front. Most people I see do it to the neck. You isolate the lats more by bringing the pull downs to the chest and its risky doing them to the neck, there's always a chance that you will injure your neck.

I don't do behind neck due to the possible damage to your rotator cuff. Apparently that is a different kind of sore injury.

If everybody does it, is it still cheating?

I have issue with rotator cuff but was caused by peck deck...

I can do behind the neck safely and it grows your lats, lights out....

I do them to the front, and after 3 sets to the front, i then do just one set to the back....

Give it a shot, you're only TESTing it...

Definately Front... doing behind the neck when i started training 6 years ago actually injured my rotator cuff badly

Dorian Yates, in one of his training vids, said that you should be able to stop mid-way through the movement otherwise youre going too heavy.
I agree. If i dont feel the muscle popping there is something wrong - too heavy or form not up to scratch.
Heavy as possible but still feeling the contraction.
Pulldowns for me is to the front. Shoulder problems.
Full stretch, fairly slow pull down with a slight pause at the full contraction point.
Back is my most improved body part this year.

Nothing can work your lats better than chinups,i think lat pulldowns are low-grade versions of chinups.Over-hand and under-hand chinups force you to lift your entire bodyweight thereby giving your lats the maximum possible force it needs to grow this stubborn muscle. And if you can do more than 15 reps of chinups in one set then you need to add a weight belt around your waist to go harder.

Arnold says the only 1 move you need to do is chins... it adds roadmaps into your back... it works quite well for me too..

I love chin ups. I normally do around 50 or so

I've always wanted to try it because according to Lee Haney that's almost all that he done. Personally I like reverse grip pull downs, makes for more thicker muscles.

it does add a nice dense muscle.. but if you want width you need those wide grip pull ups / bent over rows.

my idea back work out, bent over rows and t-bar... bent over rows (wide, then shoulder width) then hands under and row (close grip and then shoulder width)

nice growth!
