Hypertrophy and HST training was created by NightFang
Hey everyone,

I've recently taken some interest in the topic of hyperthophy. I actually came across it outside of the bodybuilding and powerlifting worlds (a meme of some sort). Anyway. I went looking for information about it, and found a traditional vrs and HST training program. Currently my workout looks something like this:

Monday: (chest + tris)
Benchpress: 3 x 8-12
Incline bench: 3 x 8-12
Flat flies: 3 x 8-12
Incline flies: 3 x 8-12
and maybe Cable cross overs: 3 x 8-12

Cable pushdowns: 3 x 8-12
Cable pulldowns: 3 x 8-12
Cable pushdowns (rope w/ split): 3 x 8-12

Tuesday: (back + bis)
Deadlift: 3 x 8-12
Lat pull downs: 3 x 8-12
Seated cable rows: 3 x 8-12
Wide grip rows: 3 8-12

EZ Barbell curls: 3 x 8-12
Hammer curls: 3 8-12
Reverse grip curls: 3 x 8-12

Wednesday: Rest

Thursday: (legs + random abs)
Squats: 3 x 8-12
Leg press: 3 x 8-12
Leg extension: 3 x 8-12
Leg curl: 3 x 8-12
Calf raises (feet open, v shaped, and toes in): 3 x 8-12, 8-12, 8-12

Friday: (shoulders + traps)
Shoulder press: 3 x 8-12
Side lat raises: 3 x 8-12
Front raises: 3 x 8-12
Upright rows: 3 x 8-12
Shrugs: 3 x 8-12

Right, now that I have that typed out; Would a HST program be something like this (wont type out the whole thing):

Monday:
Benchpress: 3 x 8-12
Cable pushdowns: 3 x 8-12
Lat pull downs: 3 x 8-12
Hammer curls: 3 8-12
Leg press: 3 x 8-12
Upright rows: 3 x 8-12

Tuesday:
Deadlift: 3 x 8-12
etc...

Wednesday: Rest

Thursday:
Squats: 3 x 8-12
etc...

Friday:
Shoulder press: 3 x 8-12
etc...

So in short, each major muscle group everyday.

Is this really beneficial compared to the more traditional program as per my first routine? And if so, how would one adjust the sets/reps?

Thanks!

Sorry, to correct myself:

HST is a full body workout every two days. So it would be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

I do HST to take a break from other splits. It's really rewarding doing full body workouts. Had some nice strength increases, just make sure you take enough time to rest in between training days. My format usually went like this:
AXBXAXBXX, both A and B being full body workouts (just different exercises) and X being off. If you feel you aren't recovered on a training day, take it off. Do some cardio and stretch your muscles properly. Also important to log your lifts to improve every workout.

Progress will depend on for howl ong you've been lifting. For novices, whole body days and enough rest are golden.
