Do any of you guys from the coastal areas find it a bit more difficult to train when you're up in Jhb? Like you need to take longer rest periods and can't breathe as well as when you're home? I found that I was also unable to lift as much as I usually do...or is it just me being lazy and having an off day?

This is a well known phenomenon. Joburg is at about 1700m above sea level, and performance is best at sea level. Air contains less oxygen the higher you go. Acclimatization takes days of uncomfortable training - as any road runner knows too well

The air at the coast is more dense than the air up in gauteng, thus it contains more oxygen

Ah ok I figured it was that. How long does it usually take to get used to these conditions tho?

there are many opinions - some say 3 weeks, some say years. An iron supplement might help - to do with haemoglobin, and the amount of oxygen your blood can carry to the muscles
