Training post pregnancy. was created by p1et
Hi gents ok so the wife is reaching week 6 which meens she can start working out again.

I thought i would start her out with cardio only for the first two weeks to strengthen her core.

The abdominal muscles being the main concern would it be better to work those secondary with the likes of light squats and deadlifts or directly with abb exercises?

If she had a c-section I will really take it very easy and will wait a little longer before cardio or other exercise.

I agree 100%. She can start off with walking and then with kegals. After a couple of weeks start with crunches to strengthen abdominal muscles.

Thanx shes pretty determined to get back into the gym. She did have a c section but the info i have says that one can start exercise 6weeks after.

She started out with those crunches (just tightening the abbs) while flat on the back a while back.

Over all recovery seems fine as shes up and about, just that the her core is still weak.

Also when i say cardio i meen low intensity stuff like walking on the tredmill or the cycle with back support.

Maybe do this for longer?

She sounds like a little daemon haha

Only she knows how she feels and how quick her body recovers, we can merely give a guideline...

I would say take it easy for another 2 - 4 weeks. Patience is the game and let the body heal...

Yeah i think il tell her to keep off the weights for a bit longer.

I would like to think that i had a bit of influence on how shes recovering as shes eating really well. Been cooking up a storm for myself and her:p

i think she should first get the okay from her Dr to train. not all heal that fast. I trained to my last day, but after 6 weeks was still had some pain and had to sit out for 8 weeks. So please have her checked out first.
Then she can start walking, light exercises, but its nb that she must monitor her own body. If its painfull, rather stop and heal.

i would understand any woman want to get back...but rather heal up first.

I suggest also she gets her diet in check... and then start of light... increasing intensity every 2nd or 3rd week, depending how she feels.
oh and she can kegel all the way...

Let her start with basic crunch exercising...nothing that stretch the stomach.. coz i felt pain in the beginning. Good luck.

Thanx for the reply. Current diet is high calories, lots of carbs as shes breast feeding. Want to make use of this period to build some muscle.

I told her to stay on the light cardio for the next month or so before moving on to weights. Im sure she wont train if she has pain anyway.

So i take it once she does start to do abdominal exercises its better to work the abs with direct exercise?

My Mrs trained up until the birth of our little one and then got back in to weight training 6 weeks post pregnancy.

I honestly wouldn't start with cardio, cardio doesn't strengthen anything, resistance training strengthens.

We took it fairly easy with my wife to start, take into consideration joins will still be lax as well. Full range of motion, light to moderate weights, whatever she is comfortable with and see from there.

She'll know what she's capable of.

The only thing my wife was unable to do at the start was specific core work and barbell hip thrusts. Everything else was fine.
