Squats and leg press was created by p1et
Ok I know there was a thread where foot position ec was discussed but I can't seem to find it.
I have a few questions.
Firstly when doing squats do you drive mostly with the quads, mostly from the glutes and hammies or do you try and find a ballance between the two? Same question for leg press.
At the moment I'm trying to hit the quads with the squats and the glutes and hammies the leg press (driving from the.heels) is this fine?
Then regarding the footing, I was under the impression that if you have toes out heels in you work outer quads more and vice versa but I find that if I do the toes out heals in it just chows my inner thighs like crazy! The only way I hit the outer quads is by pressing my legs outward as I lift the weight up, independent from footing.
Any input?

Go big or go home...

With squats I just keep my feet facing forward. Maybe I'm wrong but I've never had much belief in toes in or out. I find if I go as heavy as possible and drop low enough I trash my whole leg. And what ever wasn't trashed sure is after leg press.

Try and experiment with stance width. I find a slightly wider stance works my inner thighs more and allows a deeper squat. The opposite for a slightly narrower stance.

MAX OUT your expectations of what is possible for you...you CAN handle the weight

I also face my feet forward, go down slowly and push up forcefully with my feet, facing straight ahead all the time.
You could also use the smith machine for squats (although I'm not too fond of it). By placing your feet further forward, it hits the quads alot better.

Narrow stance, feet forward - typical bodybuilder squat. Ass to grass, very much quad focused.
Shoulder width or thereabouts with feet slightly turned out - typical Olympic position squat - big glutes and quads.
Wide stance, toes turned out - powerlifting stance - big hamstring recruitment and glutes, not as much quads.
All will hit total legs (and calf).
Front squat also hits quads and glutes very hard.
Never do leg press so can't comment.
