Cardio in fasting state? was created by beemer
Hi,

To complement my Prop/Anavar cycle I need to improve my cardio sessions.

On my cardio mornings, I take whey (26g protein)with 2 tea spoons BCAA and glutamine.

It seems that plenty of you guys recommend cardio in a fasting state. Do you guys literally do cardio on an empty stomach in the morning?

Thanks

Yeah bud.

Doing it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (after fasting during sleep for about 8 hours) helps target the stubborn fat deposits on your body as there are no calories in your system for your body to use as energy.

So your body burns the fat on your body as a source of energy. Does that make better sense?

Yeah, makes perfect sense. The cardio session must be quite tiring though.

Would you suggest HITT, low or medium intensity cardio?

I am also concerned about staying anabolic or will the Anavar take care of that?

Yeah. I'm following your thread. Congrats on the amazing progress. I see you doing cardio every morning and post workout.

I'm currently doing about 15min EOD after weights but at a medium intensity, and am considering adding in extra cardio on my off days (Saturday and Sunday). I just don't know whether this is too much cardio and whether it will affect my cycle gains, hence the question about staying anabolic during a cardio sessions.

If you trying to lean out for the summer then i would add the extra cardio in, dont worry about loosing gains as long as your diet is fine and you keep pushing till failure i see no problem with it bud.

I think my diet is good for the extra cardio, and I don't think I should drop my calories further as I'm already about 400 calories below my maintenance calories, unless you disagree.

I know I can drop my bodyfat with the extra cardio as the anavar is only really kicking in now also. I just don't know by how much it will drop.

Do you think it's worthwhile throwing in some clen or should I rather try the extra cardio first?

Hey Beemer,
This is quite a contentious issue. Many people assume that 1st thing AM your body is going to use FAT as its energy source. Considering the fact that in the morning your Insulin levels are at its lowest and Cortisol levels are high, the opposite should be the case. This is catabolic and in theory your muscles will also be used as fuel, not just the FAT. For this reason many believe that you should ALWAYS get some Simple Carbs (quick energy - e.g. Ripe Bananas) as fuel. IMO if you are trying to LEAN BULK, skip the fasted cardio. And if you are to do fasted cardio, make sure it's not HIIT, that way you really are screwing yourself.... Fasted Cardio supposedly burns fat DURING exersize. If you do cardio say after training, you elevate you MR and you burn fat throughout the day......

Personally I say you (you, in the general sense) should make up your mind about what you want to achieve first.
1. Lose the desired amount of fat AND THEN start doing a lean bulk.
2. Bulk up and lose the fat after.

Building muscle required a Calorie Surplus, Losing fat requires a calorie deficit. Finding the right balance to do both requires some skill. Personally I prefer doing a lean bulk and then trimming back the fat after.

Cheeeeeers.

I would do 30 min cardio post workout 3 times a week with no clen and take it from there.

@DBatDBN
I agree with your action plan, and that's exactly where I am. I've done a lean bulk and am in the porcess of trimming, mainly in the stomach area - there's not much (some would say)but its bothering me.

I'm not prepared to jeopodise my gains as I struggle to pick up. I think I'll continue with the 15-20min HITT training (or more time permitting) 3x times a week after weights, and add 30-45 min moderate cardio in fasted state.

@GregB1
I've heard wonderful things about clen but haven't done sufficient research on it yet, so don't even know whether it can work with my cycle or what the sides are. Will rather put on hold. Thanks

I still say drop the fasted cardio all together bud. Read this:

Had a quick sqizz at that link. Are you suggesting that I have a full blown breakfast before morning cardio? My breakfast entails 26g whey, 75g oats and 10 almonds.

Unless you are able to eat that meal 1 hour before training, then yes. The thing is that Oats is a complex carb, so it's a slow releasing energy source. So if you can't eat an hour before, then opt for a quick energy source, any simple carb.

Best bet is a green apple or a ripe banana. Still have your whey shake.

After your training, refill Glycogen stores with dextrose and more protein. Then 30-1hour after that continue with your normal meal regimen......
