So, basically my first time back in the gym in a month or so, me and my training partner did back yesterday. Following Yates' Blood & Guts routine therefore meant deadlifts were last in the program.
After our 2nd last exercise, training partner tells me that he doubts he'll be able to deadlift today, seeing as his energy is depleted. Both of us kinda skimped on the eating part of things yesterday, but I told him that we're not gonna wuss out. If we have such depleted energy levels, instead of doing deadlifts with the barbell, we'll do it in the Hammer Strength machine, minimising extra muscle involvement and targeting our back a bit more. Usually an old faithful that machine, not this time. First set went down fine, perfect form. On my working set however, first rep, suddenly my lower back goes stiff, that heavy feeling where it feels weird to breathe because you feel, compressed or something. My foot placing was a little too far forward, and for someone who is taller than average, that hurts.
Needless to say, I stopped immediately, next day, and I'm still barely able to bend over completely, if I stand up completely straight or lie dead still, my back feels fine. Dunno if I just pulled a muscle or maybe popped a disc (in a musch less serious way than GSP of course!).
However, I shall never, ever, be doing deadlifts in a machine, ever again.

How can your foot placing be too far forward when the bar is supposed to scrape your shins for Deads?
