Read an article on T-nation. Acoording to this guy, lunges are not so effective for glutes. he says:
Q
  • : Are you sure that lunges aren't the best glute exercise? Every time I do them I can barely sit down for a week.

  • A: Yes, I tested them many times on myself and on several other people to. They sure make the glute-ham tie-in sore, but they don't make the upper glutes sore, nor do they cause a burn or a pump in the glutes like the exercises listed above. Contrary to popular opinion, they only get glute activation to at most 30% of MVC, while others can get glute activation to over 120%.

I looked at some clicks of what he consides the best for glutes.. but i think our guys in the gym would stop exercising for a while..... and be breathles...

I think its not 1 exercise that does the thing, its a combination of alot of exercises together with the right diet that works at the end. .

was just interesting. whats ur thoughts.

Was the article by Bret Contreras (the glute guy)

The problem with the electrical testing of muscles, I believe, is it's dependent on the person being tested. Some clients can't effectively switch on their glutes for example, so if that person was tested there would be a very limited recruitment and activation.

As a whole electrical testing has thrown up some very interesting results challenging a lot of main stream thoughts about what works best for what muscle.

The only way we know what works best is through trial and error. No one body is the same and what works best for my glutes may not work best for someone elses.
You hear it all the time with guys in the gym, something works for them but does nothing for someone else.

Personally with my clients - I have had good results with lunges (heavy) for lower reps, have great results with barbell hip thrusts (heavy) and of course barbell squats (heavy and volume work).

Others may have some other exercises that have worked well for them.
