Is cardio for me? was created by RvP
Currently trying to put on a bit a of lean mass...i have done so already without cardio, but would doing cardio benefit me in any way?

Current stats are:
Age: 26
BF: 6%
Weight: 79kg
height: 1.76m.

All im looking for is to reach around 85-88kg of lean mass with a BF of around 5%

So Cardio or no cardio for me?

6%BF @ 79kg is fuck lean bro and muscular. But anyway, that not the question. Cardio is to me an essential part of training so IMO it always needs to be included. Intensity and duration will obviously depend if you're leaning out of not.

I agree with vega5 cardio should be in there even if its 1 hour low intensity per week. Like having a stroll on the treadmill or a relaxed trap on the cycle. Helps keeping the heart fresh asweell, specially when doing a office job.

You could even split it between 2-4 days and do it post workout.

I usually read some treads when I'm doing cardio, its the only way I get trough it haha. As for saterday morning I like to sleep late as I don't get much rest in the week. Cardio is kak boring, but I guess when I start doing hiit then it won't be boring but ill have to have a bucket close by.

Bro how sure are you that your bodyfat is at 6%? Why I ask is because when one's BF drops below 6.8% (maybe 6.5% if you are lucky) then your body goes into starvation mode. This means that you CANNOT build muscle Not even with steroids. Did you get an assessment with a professional or was it on those machines in the corner of your local virgin active?

That is my current stats as well except the age
I started dropping bf as soon as i halved my cardio. I did do a excessive amount of cardio in the past. DJ really helped me allot with my training and diet. I still feel cardio is very improtant but i dont go close to hi intensity cardio anymore. I aim for 20min after weight training (4 x per week) and then maybe a additional 45min one of those evenings

Funny thing is even with 6% bf i still struggle to see my abs

No no, not those dreaded VA machines. My personal trainer actually did all my measurements

Really? Sjoe did not know that

@ rvp1: if you referring this question to me then i would not say my diet contains allot of sodium. I add some when i prepare food but that is all. Currently upping my water intake to 3L/day for last week of my programme

@Pyro: Thats strange tho coz now, compared to when I started my cycle 6 weeks ago, i'm gone much leaner, bigger, abs are showing quite well. Infact i've never been this hard and lean ever before. I started off at 7% BF btw, and the tren has just been hardening and vasculating me more and more every week

Jeez! You are a fortunate man! Beginning a cycle off a 7% bf must be a dream. You only have to focus on building. Most people need to juggle lean mass growth while dropping bf. Seems you have some good genes going there bud!

PS: I reckon cardio should still be included in your case as well. You dont even have to worry about hi intensity cardio just some low intensity post workout cardio 2 or 3 times a week.

Good luck

Thanks bud. It is good in a way to start off a cycle at those stats but getting in all these calories is flippin hectic. Gotta be constantly eating all the time! I've never had a huge appetite previously but luckily the equi is giving me a bit of a boost in that department. Its still hard work tho

At 6% abs should be rock hard and look like little mountains. Anyways I do not like the idea to do cardio during the year, only when getting lean for December. Few 20 minute sessions post is ok. Your body gets used to the cardio and you get fitter, so the body will use less and less energy with time.

I wish I had your stats, great physique bro!

get on a stationary bike for 20mins with a playboy mag or something that you can read and just chill out on it for about 4 times a week!

If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you

I like 10min pre training to get the mind prepared and think the workout through, then another 10min post to relax a bit. I do it because I like it, not trying to achieve much more than good health.

Lets go!

I read this thread the other day and your comment about bf interested me, could you possibly give a source to some info regarding this? I tried looking into it and according to wiki 3to5% is used for organs ec, so technically speaking one could go to that range and still be healthy! Another thing I thought of was way back in school I had a bf test (skin fold) and it came in at close to 5% and had no trouble building muscle! Also I see a good few athletes, (even short distance) claim to be able to maintain a 3% bf... that's hectic

Damn bro this is stuff that I learned lank years ago. I don't know if I can get you that info to be honest? Thing is when I learn new things I don't keep a file database of it. And I don't need 140% scientific trial error proofs and such. I just know who is credible and who isn't, and learn accordingly. Maybe someone who sleeps at home but lives on medscape (Muscleaddict cough cough) can help me out here? Or whatever that website is called..
