When are you overtraining? was created by gorilla
So guys, I'm trying to sharpen up my training lately and have been doing 20-25 sets per muscle group. I used to do 16-18.

I train each muscle group once a week. Am I overtraining?!

Lets go!

go look up over training symptoms. Its not like that tells us anything. Over training must be assessed by yourself...... I can tell you that you are probably heading for it though.

To you it may look like I just did a push-up... But in fact, I just bench-pressed the world.

I believe what KAi greene say-people worry too much about over training they are in fact under training.Over training is hard if your diet is good and you sleep well and take days for rest.Even more difficult when you are on cycle.

20-25 sets for bi's and tri's are a lot or do you mean 20-25 combined for them.

ya but Kai is also on loads of gear.. Over training is very real, science can show that. I like Kai's opinion on a lot of things and find that he is very intelligent when it comes to training, but over kill is underestimated.

and please don't forget over training is dependent on an extremely large variety of factors and is not simply local to how many sets you do in a session.

I don't have any of the symptoms and I feel like I'm only working harder.

I'm seeing gains though so I must be doing somethin right.

VonD, for bis an tris I do about 12-16 sets per muscle group.

Lets go!

I believe if you are pushing to failure that 20-25 sets is going to force u into over training unless you having 3 full rest days a week, I do believe that 16 sets is more than enough to grow when these sets are performed to failure between 8-12 reps. I feel that if u are getting 25 sets out of a work out you aren't pushing heavy enough weights in the first place. I do 16 sets for chest for example and I am fucked after that, the only way I can do more is if I use less weight and then I am defeating the point of training, less training is sometimes more in terms of muscle growth. If you are battling to sleep at night, become constipated, and feel run down then u are most likely overtraining and not eating enough.

The only way I see 25 sets working is if you are doing 3 exercises of 4 sets each and then the last exercise you are add in some fst7 style training, only on lagging body parts,no more than 2x a week. Other than that then I think u need to up the weights.
