Ok this question is not for me , as i quit smoking almost 2 years ago

My cousin is also training , and unfortunatelly he is a smoker , after a lot of fighting with him he has limited his drinking , but he is still smoking and he is convinced that smoking does not hinder his gains , exept for other obvious health issues that comes with smoking , surely smoking must hinder gains to some degree ?

Any input on this would be great

It screws with your respiratory system so oxygen transport is not so good, also smoke depletes your vitamins in the system. So with an BB diet, it's quite crucial to get every bit of mineral and vitamin in.

Its impossible to quantify how much smoking will hinder his gains because there are too many variables involved.
iMan makes many good points but I feel that the main problem is that it constricts your arteries and increases bp.

I quit smoking about 4 years ago and I can FEEL and SEE the difference every day in the gym.
It was truly the BEST thing I have ever done for my life!

When he is ready to quit, I recommend he gets a copy of Allan Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking. It has worked for me and many of my friends.

Best of luck to you and your mate!

Would certainly think it'd hinder gym performance and therefore gains, you can't do 20 rep squats when you're already out by the 9th one etc

Sorry guys Apparently it is true, cause its happened to certain people already, so I’m not taking any chances !!

Can agree with LXIX completely.. I rebounded these holidays a little, but excluding that its been 9months or so since I stopped.. Appetite increased and could break my mysterious 84-85 barrier.. Smoking is also catabolic I think..?

Best thing I ever did was quit.. Feel great and I don't have to constantly worry about my friends and family who think I stopped/don't smoke etc.. Really is taxing that business. Now I just have to worry about what damage I did to my body in a stupid 5-6 years of smoking, so senseless and what a waste of cash....

To you it may look like I just did a push-up... But in fact, I just bench-pressed the world.

I also stopped smoking about 3 months ago, and it has probably been the best decision I have ever made, I feel better, no more wheezing and struggling to breath etc, and more money :D It also seems to be paying off in gym, better pumps and so on.

I hate that I still get cravings every now and then though, though they are getting less frequent and intense

I used to start smoking like a locomotive when I had a big night out.... I then once tried to smoke when I was sober... the taste disgusted me so much that I never touched a cigarette ever again... no matter how drunk I get.

Allan Carr is the man! The dude used to smoke 4-5 boxes a day, then he found his way and just stopped. No cravings. No withdrawal symptoms. And I can vouch for him cause I was a smoker for 7 years at about a packet day and a carton for the weekend partying. Read his book in one afternoon and I simply stopped. No guilt, no cravings, nothing. The really cool thing about reading his book is that you MUST CONTINUE TO SMOKE while reading it and He even tells you to go have one.

Honestly bro I thought I was never gonna be able to stop, but he just made it so easy to do it. And there is no better time than now. Remember life only gets more stressful, never less. So don't plan on quitting after your big exam, because after your big exam you might have a big fight with your girl, and then when thats done you have to go on holiday so you can just quit when you come back, etc..... Get the idea here?

I used alan carr's method and it worked, but it doesnt stop the cravings, he even says so him self, he simply gives you a way to deal with them

Yes i did the course - Discovery paid. The "Easy" way is not constantly thinking you are depriving yourself of smokes. It resets that thought. You merely become "normal" again.
