Hi guys,

Just a random question...considering you had unlimited access to capital what would
be a good venture to get into in the SA economy?
I was thinking cold storage facility? any other ideas...

Transportation...

(Edit: Transportation as in freight or livestock using a big truck...)

You will have to find a good drivers though and it's still a job that will require allot of your energy and require patience, but the rewards are well worth it if you ask me.

Are you talking about buying and reselling when the market prices increases?

I have no experience in gold, but I do have experience in the diamond industry. I can find just about any size, cut, color and clarity should anyone be interested. It's all done legally off course and I will not touch an uncut diamond unless it's the owner with a permit that is showing it to me.

(BTW: If anyone approaches you on the street claiming to have uncut diamonds, don't touch them. Really, don't hold them in your hand for one second and never buy uncut diamonds. You won't be able to sell them anyway as all diamond centers require a permit for uncut diamonds and they can tell where the diamond originated from and if you don't have a permit for that geographical area you will sit in jail for a very long time.)

Mining for diamonds is a massive risk and a kak job, so I will not recommend that to anyone. A few strike it lucky, but the majority go bankrupt.

I think i would rather buy places that are run down... fix them up... and then sell them! Some nice easy money.

Or property development if you know GOOD contractors.

If money was no object... I would bring GOLDS gym to SA... Would overtake Virgin and PF!!

Give it a shot, you're only TESTing it...

Or get the franchise rights to Burger King or Taco Bell and open a few here... you would make a killing.

Property investment can be quite lucrative, but I'm doubting whether the property market is ever going to get any better.... suppose it just takes patience.

Yup, and the last thing you want to be part of is an IDP trap... That is a dark rabbit hole I know all to much about... But greed of some is more important than the will to be a good person.

I don't know Kyle, in the states BurgerKing and Taco Bell do better than MacDonalds. I know America is full of fat junk-food-eating slobs, a bit different to here, but I still reckon they would be competitive in the our market... not that I want another fast-food chain here, preferably not.

Gyms are also a good idea but you need the right area to open one up. If you looking at looking a gym like Golds Gym, you will notice that their gyms are massive with loads of equipment, so space is a point you need to address.

I get what you saying, but you have to remember a food franchise has to appeal to the general population of the area that it operates in, this may sound stereotypical but most small towns that you go into you will find a KFC before a Mcdonalds in general, i mean Middelburg where i grew up has had a KFC from since I could remember and only got a McD's in about 2000

There is now 3 KFC's in middelburg 2 of which are bigger than the mcdonalds, since the general population of South Africa is Black and do prefer to eat chicken when it comes to fast foods and such, so unless you bring over some kind of new chicken fast food franchise that can compete with KFC I dont think it will be very lucrative venture.

Please note I am NOT trying to be racist or anything of the such merely stating the facts.

Good point. Its actually incredible how Chicken Licken has taken off since its rebranding.

Yeah, I know the KFC in Middelburg that you talking about, stopped off there a few times on the way up to Lydenburg, where I was based for a while.

Awhile back there was this bridge that collapsed between middelburg and witbank, which meant that people had to use the toll road which is R42 one way to get between middelburg and witbank and its only like a 20km drive, anyways some guy had land on both sides of this river that the bridge collapsed over, and whathe did was build a bridge and charge people to cross it, R10 one way, and bam, they took like 7months to build the new bridge and the guy who built a makeshift bridge must of easily made over R2mill
