How have any of you guys gotten around the clause regarding intake of prescription drugs or medicines without medical supervision when taking a life insurance/disability cover?

It clearly states this this can void the policy, would they test post mortem or post claim?

Any ideas?

Um, but im scared of needles...

Shit, I didn't think of that when I signed my contract.
I'll check my policy and see waht it says..

I'm sure, if they do test, it would be post mortem. It may take to long to test post claim as the body may be in the ground already.

This is the only clause I could find that might apply:

I suppose steroids would fall under: intentional consumption of drugs not prescribed by a registered medical practitioner.

It has nothing to do with PCT, its the matobolites that will still be floating around in your system.

It also depends on how you die, that determines which tests are done post mortem, if any!

If you've done a proper PCT all your hrmones will be balanced and normalized, but I was joking anyway :)

I worked for an international insurance company as a broker for 2 and a half years.
If u admit to using, u cannot get any cover for a full year. Then tests are done, then exlude alot of stuff on cover for another year.
If u die in an accident, they dont test u because its external circumstances.
If u die of a heart attack at 24 they may want to investigate and talk to ur doc, if he speaks up, then no payout due to non disclosure.

I would go with a bigger company that dont test every1 after death like the smaller guys do...the cheapies test after death to see if u lied. The bigger guys dont.
Or just get accidental cover, that covers u just for accidental death, its alot cheaper and no tests.

Hmm, how recent should your doctor have stuff on file? What I mean, is if I where to stop say today, and told my doctor, and tomorrow I start a policy and in 5 years I die... What would the complications be, would there be any?

If u die of liver failure, example, and tests show it is from dbol, naps etc then u could have non -disclosure clause and it wont pay out. THey will look into it if u say u dont drink at all on the policy, but liver fails. U see what i mean>?
Ur exact example, 5 years down the line, and its not steroid use related u wont have probs, but choose a big company like old mutual, sanlam etc. Not small guys like discovery or momentum etc.

That helps bud?

Hi

So opening this old thread as we might as well pump it with more information. Does anyone know what specific blood tests are done for Life Cover by Liberty. Would hormone levels be tested, a full list would be great.

Hi gents

My 5c, as i have some involvement in this industry. I agree, stick with the big guys like OM, Sanlam. On what i have heard in the past, is that OM is the quikest to pay out a death benifit policy to your loved ones. The 2 mentioned is not so full of nonsense. Like with Sanlam, they test your glucose, nicotine, BP and cholesterol if i remember correctly. I got my policies after i finished school in ‘99, so not sure what they check these days. I will try and find out Pump. What i do know is that we are generally healthy at the age of 18, and all your bloods look good. But should something change and its on your doc’record somewhere, you need to disclose this

Now...i dont want to shoot companies down, as i might get in trouble.. but consider this that a good mate of mine told me, and he was at the time high up in this company, but moved to Europe now. - Scenario - You have your medical aid and life insurance at the same company. You get diagnosed with high BP or heart issues or whatever. YOU DONT REPORT THIS TO YOUR LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY, because you think that because its the same company doing your medical aid and life ensurance, that they will have it on record that its disclosed, so no need to phone them and disclose your condition. WRONG!!!!! You have to still disclose, and people dont know this. Claiming could be an issue then. So this is something to be considered

Appreciate the info. I am not going to not disclose my heart / BP / etc. I'm just worried about high test levels if they do decide to test that.

They definitely don’t test that. They are testing for the typical health markers.

Not an expert on life insurance, nor medical jurisprudence. FWIW I see Post Mortem/un-natural death reports. In my own experience, it appears that toxicology analysis is rarely done, usually only when chemical or drug use is obvious from surrounding circumstances eg: some poison or drug is found near the body, most often in suicides or accidents. Our state pathologist's examination of organs appears quite crude - to me as a layman eg: a PM report will remark on kidney mass or organ scarring but go no further. Cause of death is also surprisingly vague eg: multiple injuries from an MVA will be called "Blunt force trauma". PM alcohol testing is far more frequently done.
