Tuna.

I've been wondering about this for a while and thought i'd post something about it, have you guys watched 'End of the Line' its a doci about fishing but focus's on the nature of the fishing industry and they predict that within the the next 50+ years the fishing industry will hit rock bottom due to over fishing.

But one of the big issues they cover is the fishing of Tuna, and they predict that in something like the next 20 - 30 years there will no more Tuna. The whole Japan disaster also made me think about this because in the documentary they say that the Mitsubishi company in Japan has been building big trawlers to catch Tuna which they freeze in and store because they are attempting to deplete the sources at which point tuna will become a comodity and since its big in sushi people will pay good money for this delicacy. Granted they allege this without much facts but the mere fact that people all over the world is talking about the tuna depletion there must be some credibility to this.

When you deplete sources it becomes a speciality hence the increase in prices. A comodity is a product that is freely available. Just some useless info, no harm intended bud

besides in 30 years time I'll be very disappointed if we haven't cloned tuna to have a higher protein content and better taste

Tuna tastes awesome whats your guys problem! I think thats its problem, if i was an animal my number one defensive mechanism is that i'd taste like shit... That should really be an evolutionary instinct

but on a serious note, over-fishing is a massive problem not only for tuna, but the fishing industry is faced with the dillema of keeping fishing at this rate and facing possible extinction of tuna, or sacrificing major profit in order to let the species rejuvinate... hmmm

Watched some random doc on discovery recently and depleted fish stock is actually a bigger problem than we think. Maybe we wont feel it now but 20years from now you probably will have to get your omega 3's somewhere else because you wont be able to afford fishy fishy.

They have started extensive breeding programmes in the US but mainly on some tipes of fresh water fish. This will have to happen on a huge scale globally to be a effective counter for the problem
