What's your thoughts on Tracker, Netstar, Matrix ect?

Anyone with some stories to tell, good or bad?

I want to fit a tracking system, but I'm not sure if getting your car back is always the best, because I'll much rather have the insurance pay out before I get a fucked up car in a chop shop.

You said it there, the insurance would be very happy if you fit a tracking system, pay it every month, and then, when it gets stolen, the tracking company will 70% of the time get ur car back (police is about -4%) and then would be happy to returned a fucked up car to u, and the already “skelm” insurance company would be happy that u now have your vehicle back, they pay nothing, but mechanically your car is fucked up.

The only reason I would see to fit a tracking system is if you have a fleet of vehicles you want to monitor, otherwise there is no use, o or if you don’t have the “skelm” insurance.

Yes and I see you can buy your own GPS tracker on bidorbuy for R800 and you can track it online or via SMS. No monthly costs as it works via cell-tower GSM.

I read about a guy's Golf 4 that was stolen and he had a gear lock installed and in 1st gear. When they found the car 50km away the skelms drove it all the way in 1st so the engine and gearbox was totally fucked and the insurance only paid for the interior repairs.

I worked in Vanderbijlpark for about 1.5 years and my hilux was stolen there. Luckily the neighbor heard them pushing it down the street trying to start it as they fucked the ECU by connecting the wrong wires. He called the cops and woke me up. We found it 2 blocks down the street with the gearbox taken apart so that the build-in gear lock can be removed. The entire dash was ripped to pieces. Even the safety belts were cut... I think they were planning to tow it away using the safety belts.

It was locked in a container at the police impound for 1 month before we finally got it and then it was another 3 months for toyota to try and repair the thing.

Only fear I have is that they steal hilux bakkies and fortuners like crazy. All they do is cut wires from the 3 alarm hooters and then they replace your ECU and ignition switch with their own, so that your car can be started with their key and remote.

Toyota now released a alarm and ECU cover that makes it harder to bend away the bonnet and it prevents the ECU harness from being plugged into another unit. However now they moer a hole in the bonnet and use a piece of wire to rip the wires out of the alarm.

This is how the alarm wires are cut or pulled out.

This is the ECU and other stuff they use to start your car with their own key.

All the damager caused, the interior will never be the same again.

Shit Admin... Those pics are SCARY!!!!
Insurance does bring your monthly premiums down, but not by the amount that you are paying out to tracker.
Some, quite a few, insurance companies nowadays require you to have a tracker unit fitted.

I think its just a money making scam hey!!!

System to track your own car??? Now that sounds pretty cool... Especially if you lend your friend your car for a day :-) See how trustworthy they really are.

Give it a shot, you're only TESTing it...

My insurance only require it if your car is over R500K.

Yeah those DIY trackers are cool, you can also get a computer thingy that you plug into your car OBDII port and it records your revs, brake usage, temperatures, fuel consumption, acceleration, speed ect depending on the parameters your car support. You then plug it into your PC and you can see all the telemetry for the last 10 hours I think. Very cool if you want to see how people drive with your car.

I think the sms's every month would add up... Maybe to even what the cost of a tracking company would???
I like the microphone... where it can record the conversations in the car :-)
