CLUBBING and TRAINING was created by chriswick
Okay okay, I know everyones default answer would be "Just don't drink". But For interest sake, if one were to... hypothetically plan a night of drinking with mates, what steps could one take to prevent or reduce the negative effects on testosterone/gains ect blah blah blah. I've done some research and found a few relevant threads ( forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=3043411 ).

Apparently one could take some selenium before you drink to reduce the amount of testosterone suppression from drinking. And honey, as it takes the alcohol longer to breakdown.

Anyone know of any other counters one could use?

Have a solid meal before including good carbs, protein and some fat.
Take a multivit, some Vit C and Glutamine before.
Try to consume as much water during and after drinking as possible. (You won't wake up during the night havnig to go pee, as your body is slightly dehydrated and uses the water)
After drinking again take a multivit, Vit C and Glutamine as well as ZMA, having a whey shake is not a bad idea either, avoid the simple carbs that one craves after drinking, rather snack on some peanuts if you must.

Works like a charm, continue consuming vitamins, glutamine and lots of water the next morning.

00pump... thats a bit unfair... what about a bachelors or something?
You cant say your friends are going to understand that you dont want to drink when its your batchelors.

At least someone is asking for advice rather than just drinking every weekend without any precautions. When a person is young.. they want to club, drink etc etc to experience "life".

However i do agree that it is stupid to go clubbing every weekend when you are aspiring to being a body builder. Trust me, i know, i DJ'd EVERY weekend for a year and a half having a bottle of tequila to myself every friday and sat night. While also trying to train hard to get big... that didnt work... thats when i chose my body over Djing/Partying!

Give it a shot, you're only TESTing it...

i agree with pump,
why train your ass off all week and then go put alcohol in your body come weekend.
i disagree with people who gym for cosmetic reasons,
basically you want to look good and healthy so you can get a piece of ass but you want the pros of bodybuilding without accepting the sacrifices it brings with it..

o pump by the way what the fuck is synthol

Don't say sorry. I knew members would comment negatively. What and the average chump would go as far as to follow these steps? "Guys like that and synthol heads", Lets comment with context here please. Im not talking about bingeing weekends, more on the lines of an annual Old boys Reunion.

just coz you lift weights doesn't make you a bodybuilder, standing on stage in a thong does.

Quite alot of people who train have no intention whatsoever of ever competing so many of the bodybuilding sacrifices dont apply to them.

Sure they wont get maximum results but at the end of the day that extra beer/burger or night out partying isn't the end of the world for people not competing.

I'm just saying that not every person who comes on these boards wants to be a bodybuilder so we shouldn't treat them as such

Sorry guys Apparently it is true, cause its happened to certain people already, so I’m not taking any chances !!

True, but then you not a bodybuilder and I don't have much time to comment on things. I like to help people that live a clean and healthy life and use steroids to maximize their physique. I don't feel you need to hop on stage but I like to help those that are on the same wave length as me..

I don't think you have to compete, living the lifestyle should also classify you as a bodybuilder.

Using steroids is also not doing one's health any favours...
Again it comes down to the key word Moderation, thus using and not abusing...

But this debate can continue forever, maybe Admin should make it the next poll...

Anyway, this topic is about reducing the harm done by Alcohol, which as 00pump correctly puts it, is not a part of a bodybuilding lifestyle. But it relates somewhat to the preventative measures that bodybuilders take to reduce the harm that using steroids can cause...

00pump I see where you coming from, Ultimate I personally feel that if you've never dieted for a show and had the guts to stand on stage in front of people who knitpick your physique then you cant call yourself a bodybuilder.

We can call ourselves "health and fitness enthusiasts" but bodybuilders we are not

Lol, smart idea.. However I once left a group of my friends at Margate on the side of the road after telling them time after time if you guys piss me off 1 more time you out. I wasn't drinking and they where out of hand and then I said fine out, so they get out, then my mate in the front of the car I said "and you Hein you want to get out", he looks up at me with these red blood shots eyes, head wobbles to side and he snarls at me then his head fall back down, I said good keep it that way :D

I think they thought I was fucking with them, I was tired and wanted to get home and I went home, left them to hitch :D

I think the difference you referring to is being competitive or not. You can be a cysclist without competing etc. etc. ?

I've got my batchelor's this weekend, or so I think, will be the first time in a long time I'll be drinking. In general, if I want to drink I would, I just prefer the gains (or Bf loss) more, so after this weekend I will be returning to the life of a carnivorous monk....

I've never drank in my life,i did smoke for a while but gave it up.I still think life is way too short to make bodybuilding your beginning and end.Its ok to get yourself pissed/smoked/high/blown or whatever you call it once in a while.Whether its clubbing or partying or whatever,1 night of "loosing it" is not going to hamper your gains that badly if done on a rare occasion. But if you are a dronkie and you suip yourself silly most weekends...well then thats your own problem.

True, 1 night wont, but a lifestyle will, and many people don't know the difference between a little or to much... You 1 glass away from becoming an alcoholic... If you look forward to a drink on a Friday night you have a problem, if you can go out and you do go out and don't drink then 1 time you do then it's a different story, but when going out means drinking / smoking / drugs, whatever you have an issue, regardless if you want to admit to that or not.

If you're at the pro level (using roids and competing), there is no way that you're living a clean and healthy life. I think pro bodybuilding and any of the other pro sports where massive amounts of roids and other hormones are used, are probably the unhealthiest sports you'll find. I guess boxing is also quite bad (roids or not)!

When on looks at alcohol and roids, which is the lesser evil? One makes you feel good and the other makes you look good, if I can dumb it down slightly.

Know your limits. A drink every now and then might possibly even be healthy, if you still have a functioning liver and kidneys left. Just because you're out clubbing, doesn't mean you need to get pissed. If you still have any balls (ergo sex drive) left, its actually quite nice to go out and check out the local tail. If tail actually interests you at all... but if you're some doofus in baggy circus pants and sleeveless top with a moonbag (I saw one of these odd creatures recently, wish I had a camera with me), then just fuck off, you're wasting space that could be filled with at least 2 chicks!

I read a lot of longevity books and the one thing they always say is the glass of wine a night because of all the health benefits. I don't drink at all, especialy not wine, the affects on testosterone is not worth it for me. Would love to get some info on whether even just a glass affects your testosterone levels....

there are so many cons against drinking, why go through all the trouble of spending 1000's on food, anabolics and training so hard and go and throw it away by getting pissed and dehydrating yourself and taking in shit calories? at the end of the day i would far rather have an extra meal than drinking shit calories.
