@BB_guy: most of the servers will allow only one connection but i have had one or two of them giving me 3 or four. Get a hotfile account for like 50 bucks....

Here is something those of you with hosting accounts can use to download files from any file sharing website directly to your server. This will allow you to download it at the speed of your server and then onto your PC.

It's called Rapid Leech and this version I attached is not the latest, but it is a free one that you can host yourself.

@Thug
when I wasn't throttled too badly by Afri(months ago) I was getting between 40-60 Gig a month. At the moment I don't think it will even be possible to DL another 5G for the month(getting 5KB at the moment lol) but will be happy with 20-30 Gig/month with the way ISP's seem to be tightening up on the unshaped accounts

get a 2Gb IS account which gives you 30Gb local and use it just for that

Would the 30G local be unshaped ?

Have heard of Usenet sites, do they all charge a fee?

Will have to do some reading up on VPN and all these protocols hey, TCP etc(clueless) :D

Are SAIX and IS the 2 main guys? What about Mweb are they independent?

Usenet is free, I've logged on but never used it before, they have an impresive amount of stuff. Its like a local file sharing community, don't have the link but I'll try and find it.

I don't really download, but asked one of the laaities at my office and he uses IS's uncapped, he says the speeds slow down during the day but at night they are fine, he only downloads torrents and last month he downloaded 60Gbs worth of stuff on a 4mbs.

SAIX is actualy telkom. The big boys are called first tier ISPs, IS/SAIX/Verizon(bought by MTN) MTN and a few smaller guys. It basicaly just means they have their own international connectivity, mostly seacom for ADSL. I have no reason to punt them but telkom's ADSL seems the fastest internationaly.

30Gb local... I don't think they shape local too much as they use their peering links and Jinx and Cinx for that traffic, so in theory you should get decent speeds.

The VPN thing, you won't easily be able to do that, I have a DC with fibres onto 1st tiers and I VPN to that. In theory, a fixed IP ADSL solution should (I say should, cause they can still shape it before it breaks out) because Fixed IP is done with a VPN. (there are ways with MPLS and your own IPconnect but VPN is the easiest and probably most used) not worth the money though.... Try IS uncapped....
