Hey guys,
there has been quite a stir created after this last weekend at the olympia between the NPC, IFBB PRO LEAGUE and IFBB AMATEURS.
so what has happened is at the amateur olympia the npc where running the show apart from a few line ups, which the ifbb amateurs wanted to run with their judging. IFBB where there to judge a few line ups such as classic bodybuilding, womens wellness, mens muscular physique and one or two others. The ifbb said that they need to run the judging and tried to flex their muscles and basically the NPC told them to fly a kite, and hence why now the NPC has been suspended from the IFBB committee.
2 Days later, the NPC and IFBB pro League have said we dont really need the IFBB amateurs any way and we are opening the NPC shows world wide to any athlete from any federation to come and compete in so that they have a better chance of obtaining a Pro card and compete in the IFBB pro Leagues.
The IFBB amateurs has now created an ELITE PRO LEAGUE to now challenge the IFBB PRO LEAGUE.
now anyone who has followed the ifbb SA for years have always seen how much of a bitch it is to compete at world champs and try and qualify for a pro card, the ifbb amateurs always change the goal posts for athletes trying to obtain this dream of turning pro. As well as the strong arm tactics of the IFBB making competitors loyal to the ifbb only, meaning you are tied into the ifbb and if you go to other federations you are going to do yourself a disservice.
so now this leaves a lot of local guys in a spot, because they are wanting to compete to get their pro cards, but cannot obtain them for the original pro division by competing in the IFBB AMATEURS only through NPC and Affiliated shows to the NPC.
So my questions and thoughts now move forward to the future of the IFBB SA, and how do the athletes want to progress through with their careers, if NPC was to come to south africa, would alot of athletes jump ship from ifbb to NPC? What about Arnold Classic? everyone competing in the amateur show is wanting to win the overalls to obtain a pro card, but now there is no pro card up for grabs? well no pro card for the original pro league, only the new elite pro league.
Do you think guys are going to stay loyal to the IFBB Amateur and try win pro cards to be a new pro in a new category of pros or do you think they are going to jump to the NPC and be in line to be a new pro in a group of athlete pros?
interesting times ahead for the future of IFBB in SA.
