Personal training qualification question. was created by TheMachine099
Hi there guys. I am looking into studying to become a personal trainer. What institution would be best to study through in your opinion as there are so many? I saw there was a thread in 2012 about this, but I would like to get a bit more up to date opinion. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks for the input. I'm currently looking at studying for a diploma at ETA as a Excercise Specialist (Not sure what the difference is between that and a personal trainer haha), but I'll check out HFPA for sure! What does the market look like here currently for personal trainers? Do you guys think one can be successful doing it in today's time?

Hey, recently got my Diploma at eta in Sports conditioning science, 1st year studies give you a personal training certificate and then if you do another year you get the option of either choosing sports conditioning or exercise specialists. as the name implies sports conditioning is more involved with sports and gym and then exercises specialists allows you train children and pregnant woman. Thats pretty much the only difference between the two otherwise everything else is the same. Not sure how HFPA works but at eta they provide you with further short courses to do like Kettlebell training, Pilates instructor, strapping, sport massage etc, The courses are optional if you want to do and leaves with a certificate. Which Eta are you looking at going to? because I went to the one in durban and things kind have gone down hill apparently with the lecturers, alot of the lecturers I had left and theres new ones in place. friend of mine says he has to do alot of home studying because it doesnt look like the lecturer knows how to lecture a class etc. Theres also compulsory fitness sessions that you need to attend everyday

ETA is a good option. I did mine with them - Diploma. I think it depends to wish campus you want to go. Same work but at certain campuses you get more attention..

Did mine at Northlink, same curriculum as eta just cheaper(2 years). Nqf7 and you get enough credits to go and study to teach sports fitness (1 year)

Thanks for the input so far! I think I'll try and study online through them because I want to work also. If I had to go to a campus then it'll be the George campus.

George Campus is a great campus. Nice people and excellent working conditions. The Virgin Active it just accross the street and you can study part-time. So you will be able to work during the day
So that might be a good chose!
