Hey Gents,

quick question to any of the crossfit members or basically anyone that uses a sports watch to track their workouts. Recently bought a Suunto Ambit3 Peak and have been using it with the HR strap while doing crossfit.

first workout it says i burnt 991 calories and today's workout 1139?
is this possible? sounds pretty high to me.

main purpose of the watch is to track my cycling and elevation gain but just wondering if the calorie count is working correctly.

Cheers .

I am using TomTom, but never rely on the calories stats. Just never seems to be consistent. Keeps excellent track of my running and cycling and every now and then have a look at my heart rate.

Sore today, strong tomorrow!!!

Majority of the devices and that includes the Apple watch and Samsung Gear S2 are not very accurate / (none of the devices are), that is why Discovery has stopped awarding people beyond 10k steps, and also people getting 5k steps are getting 50 points a day but capped at 1k points for the entire years vitality points. It can still be used for active rewards, etc, but not for further points towards your yearly discovery points.

The devices do not offer accurate heart rate measurements, maybe with the device flipped upside down and the watch reading a heart rate from the under side of your arm will be a bit more accurate. If you want true heart rate you need something that straps on to you, by your heart.

thanks for the replies gents,
yes the watch is extremely accurate when it comes to keeping track of cycling and running, elevation gain, distance, cadence, average speed and so on - but i do think the calories sounds a bit high

@00pump i do have a HR strap which i wear around my chest so i'm hoping the heart rate results is pretty accurate

first time I've ever tracked heart rate and so on so not sure what the stats should look like.

45 minute RX session - average heart rate 183 with a high of 196
resting heart rate around 85bpm

You do know the danger zone is 220 - your age.. So if you hitting 196, I hope you are 24 years of age.

i actually worked out my heart rate zone this morning and realized i'm pushing the limit as i'm turning 28 in a few weeks time,
so best i get to the GP for a full checkup just to be safe.

It isn't even about the checkup, my cardiologist advises not to go past our maximum heart rate for longer than 10 minutes at a time. A GP will also not be able to assist in anyway as they dont have any of the tools required to check your heart health, never in a million years trust a GP on your heart health. My dad had all the bloods your can think of done at his long acting GP and was told he is perfectly healthy, my dad then told me about a funny feeling he is experiencing and his GP, his GP told him that it is nothing at all to worry about. I knew exactly what my dad was describing and I contacted my cardiologist on the Wed and asked him to please trust my judgement and see my dad (your normally have to wait 2 to 3 months to see this guy), he trusted me and took my dad in on the Friday for a checkup and vwala my dad booked in for a pace maker on the Monday. When I pressed on my dad's neck he felt dizzy and wanted to pass out, that's all I needed to know there was a problem. If he didn't go on that Friday he wouldn't be here today.

The fitter you get the more difficult it will be to reach your max recommended, so take it slow and build up your fitness.

ok shot bud i hear you,
checked my heart rate graph now and i averaged around 175-182, but peaked at just over 190 at short intervals - think this was the sprints we did

thank you for the info though, definitely going to keep an eye on it and take it easy.
