Antidepressants and depression was created by BEN3
Hi guys

Just curious to know if anybody is on anti depressants and still use steroids.

Has anybody suffered from depression as a result of steroids.

Is there specific steroids that cause depression.

Depression is always something that comes up with steroid use, thought it would be nice to get some views

This subject can get pretty intense. If you are concerned that you suffer from depression, please see a psychiatrist.

I've expressed my views in a thread on these forums where we've discussed it. Hit the search button, nobody will flame you for reviving an old thread if you still have more questions.

Take care mate.

Yeah, if you already suffer from depression it can be rough.

I just recently completed my first cycle and am currently busy with PCT and holy mother of pearl but did I feel sooo super duper shitty when starting my PCT. Extremely depressed and unmotivated etc.
Some very unpleasant thoughts going through my mind.

I do not suffer from depression normally. So I would be careful if I were you.

And the problem is depression and anxiety go hand in hand.. Quite a few compounds can cause anxiety so you would land up having to take further medication as a result of that. Depression is so diverse that it could be due to serotonin or dopamine or a combination of both or even other neurotransmitters, untreated ADHD leads to depression. Another thing is that anti depressant medication, specifically SSRI's have some insane side effects and lots linked to heart rhythm / rate and blood pressure, now you using anabolics which raise it further. Effexor is probably the safest SSRI for heart health and being in a cycle, however trying to keep one's self as balanced as can be with what ever medication , anti depressants, anti psychotics, anti anxiety meds (benzos), mood stabilizers and then you go playing with hormones which if you are elderly and testosterone is low that could be the reason for the depression then using hormone replacement therapy might be the 'anti depressant' you need, other than that I won't advise the use of it as there is to many elements and I would feel comfortable advising the use. I wouldn't feel comfortable with a doctor's answer either, a long practicing psychiatrist who has been working with you for long, knowing the road you want to go down and super regular visits, specially during PCT might be an option to explore

Pump perhaps a bit dramatic re. The side effects but you make good points. For me the depression and suicide linked to steroids is mostly linked to people who don't testosterone in their cycles. A mate of mine was on a deca only cycle and he tried to commit suicide. I would be suicidal too if I had zero test in my body with Deca! Without test your prolactin will skyrocket, and let's not forget that Deca is a dopamine antagonist (i.e. it lowers dopamine). The most depressing of all is losing all your gains immediately after the Deca is out of your system.

100 percent. But I have no background on his depression, for how long, the struggle to maintained it, is it perfectly balanced now (most of the time it never is) and just requires constant tweaks, is it down to social anxiety, is it from obesity, is it because he has a chronic illness and hates feeling helpless relying on others, is it because he struggles to achieve at work, it's really so difficult to advise without knowing the complete in and out of the condition. My belief behind depressing is its a double edge sword, you need medication and then you need a psychologist who will work with you and do cognitive behavioural therapy and work with the psychiatrist, from there tools will be taught and the requirements for medication should start to become less and less. But most of the times no less than 12 weeks of therapy will be effective enough. I then advise when you ready to make the commitment to come off medication (if it's possible) to book yourself into a recovery clinic for 2 weeks, you get to see a psychiatrist daily and a therapist twice a week. You will be under close supervision and have nurses on call at night who will be able to phone your psychiatrist at any hour. That's the route I'd go if it was me

Definitely some good advise for anybody on that route. I think we would have some interesting conversations over a campfire my dude. I can see by then advise you give that you have lots of experience of this topic. Speaking about side effects we are so lucky that we have moved from MAOI's. That was some crazy stuff right there.

Pyro I had a major back flash when I read your post about the Decca only cycle with no test. I did the same thing on my first cycle in 2007... Did not end well for me ended up obese and depressed... It took a long road with a Psychiatrist that I trusted and anti depressants to just get to slightly resemble my former self.

But as you know all has been well for a good number of years now with me.

It is on you. It always has been...

Personally I think the worst thing you can do if you suffer from depression or are prone to anxiety, is take a pre workout with dmaa while on pct. Certain pre workouts with dmaa give me a hectic down after my workouts and I often feel depressed for that while, not to mention the shrinkage effect it has on my friend down there.

Just my 10 cent.(sorry if a little of topic)

Interesting. Never read that about DMAA before. Do you have a source?

Furk! Why you always gotta kill me like this!(lol)

I think it's commonly know as 'stim dick' it's when your erections aren't as hard or don't last as long during the period directly after taking a high stimulant(dmaa) pre workout. For me personally lasts about 4 or 5 hours. As for sources I've been told by a nutritionist(used to work at dis chem ; now works independently) that dmaa is now a schedule 6 drug not sure how true this is. But he did tell me that it causes erectile dysfunction.

I don't mind doing some research and writing a full article on dmaa and listing sources.

If I can remember correctly when I read rules when I joined forum there was something about no sources or listing them. Gonna go re read now though.

Peewee mate, not questioning your credibility, just never came across info that suggests that. I'll be on the lookout myself. Cheers for the heads up, no hard feelings mate.

Hey guys. Thanks for the replies. Don't suffer with depression personally.
Depression is something that always comes up with steroids and I know of a fellow gym friend who took his own life with no logical reason. Just wanted opinions on the topic and I've learnt a lot from some of the replies.
