Gym Bullies

So, I don't know where to start with this but when I first started going to the gym, it's a modest gym with a about a hundred or so members, there was this one guy. He wasn't big, not muscular, not juiced up or anything but pretty much a dick.
It was the first time I'd started lifting so my knowledge on technique was severely limited and I was on an incline bench press, flailing my arms around to get those gains and this oke comes out of nowhere and starts swearing at me for getting it wrong. Even when I finally got it right, he was on my case, insulting me.
I recall even avoiding going to the gym at times, making excuses because I knew this guy would be there watching me. It really made me uncomfortable, especially growing up as a burly kid in primary school where I was always constantly teased about my stature and size. It put me back in that position again, you know? Here I am trying to change what's always been my enemy in an environment I'm happy in and just like that, the insults are back.
But now I've grown out of it, thankfully. Asking advice from the trainers before doing anything new.
Welp, that's my story I thought I'd share with you guys. If you have your own stories to share, advice to give, use this thread as a means to let it out there.
It wouldn't be a proper forum if we didn't also deal with personal problems at times, right?. I believe, We all share the same experiences to some degree.

Be nice to run into those bullies all grown up and put things right!
But living well is the best revenge
I'd guess we're all "here" cos we found something in bodybuilding that helped us find ourselves and become who we want to become.
That's the brilliant part about working out, no matter what the issues are, it's great therapy.
But, like everything, it has it's dark side too.

don't let someone upset you or keep you out of the gym because of it, its not worth it be straight and tell the guy to piss off if he doesn't have anything good to say,
99.99% of us use the gym as some sort of stress relief hahahaha iron therapy "i go crazy if I'm not in the gym" :woohoo: :silly:
enjoy the gym hit it like a monster and don't be bothered by people

On a side note - isn't it interesting how the loud mouth bullies at the gym are mostly the relatively smaller okes?
The serious builders are generally quiet and helpful. They are, from my experience, more willing to help, if you feel you need some advice.
And when in doubt, next time this oke hassles you - ask one of the big ones to put him in his place.
Finally, in terms of technique, I found it was very useful to pay a good trainer for one session just to check on your form and shit. That really helped me a lot.
Stay strong bro!
Nate

Bullies don't pick on people who are confident. If you lack assertiveness unfortunately the only way to overcome your fears is to face them. Harsh reality and easier said than done. But change begins with that first step, even if it's a baby step. Don't put up with people belittling you.
