Yoh!!!
Someone pissed him off, oke has a serious axe to grind.
But, I think he has some good points.
People who don't belong on stage shouldn't be there (friends don't let friends make their name Pep Stores)
I mean, if you don't have the base or aren't lean enough. Not everyone can have the genetics.
But at least have a physique and be lean!!!
Not 2m tall competing as a lightweight - 6 pack, ribs & arsehole!!!
As for the "hard core" attitude in the gym - he's got a point!
Yeah, you're special, just like everyone else - now put your weights back where they belong.
No the squat rack isn't for curls!!!!
but then common decency isn't very common anymore.
As for social media.....
Hmmm, the internet isn't a soapbox for your life!!!
While useful, it's a magnet for attention whores.
They are everywhere - clearly in the physique game too....

I agree with the article. If you're willing to go on stage without looking anything near to what your best should be, it just shows that you haven't got the balls and patience to work really hard to achieve your goals. Who wants to compete in anything to get 6th place? If you're going to do anything in life, do what it takes to be your best.

On the Money. I was at the Rossi this weekend and at least one person in every line up had no place being on stage. One guy in the Novice heavy weights had a traffic cops ass and not an ab or any separation in sight. Others competing In body building devisions weighed around 90 at 6ft and over and looked like a strong wind could blow them over... It makes the whole comp look a joke and really takes away from some of the athletes that have worked there assess for years and bought a good package.
There should be some kind of minimum standards you have to meet before being able to register for a division.

While the rant does post reasons to NOT compete, it never gives a solid reason to enter a comp either.
Next week, thousands of people will be running the Comrades and very few of them are going for victory. They are doing it because its a challenge and a great life experience.
Many of them have posted their training on social media and many don't have the genetics to be great runners. Does this mean that they shouldn't enter the race? If you don't make it to the top 5,000 in your first go should you give up competing because you're not a real athlete?
While I agree that selfie whores and douche bags are annoying, they are annoying as individuals and don't represent bodybuilding.
Some people start off from way out and make huge progress but will never get rid of the loose skin (or whatever). They deserve as much respect as anyone else and have earned the right to validate their progress in this type of environment. If anyone sets themselves a goal and has the nuts to follow through and get on stage, I tip my hat to them.
And besides, any competitor who is below par will just push my/your ranking up so there is no reason for us as serious athletes to get concerned. I say bring em on. More competitors = bigger shows = better exposure = better sponsorship and prizes for the elite

@ LXIX, I agree to a degree!?!
But, those "lemmings" pre-qualify to run comrades. (madness)
If you have crappy genetics and look like shrek, but have built muscles all over and are ripped - I say get up there and give it horns. You have a right to show what you built!
Although, over-commercialisation sux!!!
Try riding any popular mountain bike stage race.
There are riders there that can't ride - shouldn't be there!!
And they mess it up for those that can and pull the whole experience down a notch!!
