When it hurts... That's when i start counting, because that's when it starts to count.

I've also given this some thought. Short of taking them to a hospital I'm not sure the correct method of disposal.
I break the needle tip off so they can't be re-used or prick anyone sifting through the trash...

I just throw them in my fernace and they disappear. But you can get those plastic biohazard containers for the chemist and hand them in at the medicentre once you've filled it.

If you have a furnace, awesome. Otherwise do the following: use a non plastic container (old coffee tin eg) throw them in there. If you have kids, lock it up. When the container gets full take it to a pharmacy or hospital and say it's for needle disposal. You don't want to have used needles circulating in normal trash bins. We have desperate people in this country. What ever method you used, please practice safe disposal.

I throw them in my fireplace, after I found some guy digging through my rubbish with his bare hands.

I nearly drove over one of them bin raiders this week.
With it getting darker in the mornings, I didn't see him or his trolley till the last moment.
Think needles are their lowest risk

i got a sharps container from pharmacy, cost like R15 and its a 5L bucket, so when its full i just take it back and get a new one, once its in you cent get it out and if you close the flip area on the lid you cant open it again,
