Egg and Chicken Bulk Shop was created by AlexRon
Morning All

Need your thoughts

I hate my job, its making my life sad, every day I look for a way out, something new, something exciting...

I've been playing with an idea of a shop that sells only bodybuilding bulk food and supplements..

What I would like to know is, based on the pricing below, do I have an angle into the market and do you think my shop would be supported by bodybuilders in JHB?

Chances of spreading out to other cities?

I have not done any business planning yet on this but am in the research stage.

Prices:

Awesome quality chicken breasts at R50 per kg - 80 Breasts (150grams each) at 12kg total - R600 incl vat
Fresh medium sized eggs at R1.13 an egg - R410 for 360 eggs

I'm still busy with my research but I would like your thoughts

Dec 2015 (2 year goal) - 97kg, 6% body fat

If it was reasonably close to me, I would definitely buy at a specialist shop like that mate

Today I will do what I never thought possible!

What would be the injection rate on that chicken breast bud, 19%, 30% - that is a large deciding factor as it changes the yeild once the product is thawed/cooked.
I can get A grade chicken breast with a 30% injection rate which is not bad because the chicken is more succulent and not so dry at R26.95 per KG, well known brand but that is only by favour through the company.
A new law is set to pass soon in SA regarding the amount of brine injected into breast and i think they made the max at 19% but i cant recall right now (this will make the prices fluctuate again). Since we are no longer allowed to import from Brazil etc the SA chicken prices have gone through the roof so if you can sell at those prices then there will be a market for you.

You will get good offers from large companies but would have to commit to no less then 20 tons at a time so if your cash flow is in order then go for it...

I think that's a great idea man! I'm constantly on the look out for specials and having to drive to this shop for a special on chicken then another for a special on eggs is crap, wastes time and money. A shop for bodybuilders with competitive prices would be spot on!! "For bodybuilders by bodybuilders" haha, nah serious I dig it. If you need somoeone to do general maintenance, basic accounting, and marketing and running of the shop I'll do it man! Being 18 and because things are looking abit grim for next year, I wouldn't be able to put capital into the business at the moment but I would like to work with you. We could try place it in a central location and then as time goes by branch out and add more products and stock things like red meats and certain fish (things which are cost effective and popular with bodybuilders). It would take a shit load of research, money, time and effort but it can work as long as our prices are competitive whilst still having a good profit margin and being able to turnover all our stock before they go off.

Obviously everyone here is going to tell you to go for it because they are just looking for good prices. However for a business that only cater to bodybuilders in JHB only, I'm not so sure it will be profitable.

If you had your own chicken farm and abattoir then you could consider direct sales to bodybuilders just for the fun of it, but other than that you should look at a much larger audience.

And to be brutally honest those prices aren't that great so why would someone go out of the way for them? I can get chicken for cheaper than that and I pay a rand an egg for free range eggs from a farm stall.
Most people who are serious about this lifestyle and have been doing it for a while already have contacts be it with the local butcher or no were the specials are. for instance I bought 15kg of chicken this weekend for R33 a kg.

Go big or go home...

By looking at your target market, being bodybuilders, and people who are looking for cheap prices on chicken and eggs, the percentage of populas who will go out of their way to support you are very limit, this rendering your market feasibility very low.

By looking at factors such as supply, getting your chicken at cheap enough prices to sell at cheap prices you are going to have to buy in large qauntities, this will drastically increase your start up cost, making your financail feasibility also a bit dodgy already.

Now look at the area, lets say JHB, sure you can supply, but there are so many other suppliers out there that probably will supply at just a few rand more. People prefer comfort, and wont travel to support this venture, if they could just buy from a supplier close to them for a few bucks more. So technical feasibility on this venture is also limited.

Thats already three feasibilities down, and not one aspect has yielded high results.

I can probably do an in depth feasibility analysis on this venture, but by just looking at that of the back of my head, this venture will ultimately hemorrhage money, and fail.

There are always risks involved in any business startup, but something has to give you a great enough edge to succeed.

This venture in my opinion has potential but has to morph and change should it want to be sucessfull0.

Okay now time for input after reading your post again.

Should you go into the supplement route, and chicken, eggs ect your startup money is going to be extremely high est R500 000 easily.

My bit of advice, there are other market options to get into, this being not one of them. The risk, vs reward ratio is not good at all

Give me the strength to forgive those who curl in the sqaut rack
