Heard Sandton is nice - its 30 min from where i am.
Went to Durban for less than a day - great weather but there wasnt much going on along the hotel strip along the beach.
Hear Capetown is great but I came from winter in the Northern hemisphere and Cape is cold at this time. Heard its better From Sept to April.
I like restaurants, pubs along street"/in neighbourhoods that are lively and have a "buzz"in the air with people walking about.

I worked there for two years and hated every moment of it. JHB and PTY are also not for me.
My idea of the perfect area is in the Karoo/Kalahari somewhere next to the Orange river, but I don't think that is what you are after.
If you want to stay in civilisation then the Western Cape is the place to be, so Cape Town is what I will vote for.

Everything 100% my opinion and experiences. The friendliest people in SA are from the Free State and Limpopo and they love newcomers. P-town (Pta) and Joburg has a great vibe for people such as yourself. The places I love to kuier is Primi Piatti, News Cafe, FTV Lounge, and Hooters. Great vibe and great people! Any irish pub like McGintys or O'Hagans will do you well. If you don't mind driving a bit, then Hogshead in fourways will sort you out quickly but fair warning the tannies are aggressive with the younger lads.

It is a general discussion section. Guess the rules are different here than other boards.

The normal basic terminology for a "jol" is - A place where you find - Discounted drinks, drunk men & easy woman.

Parys has some nice activities, qaudbiking, river rafting, clay pidgeon shooting, yes there is one company that lets you shoot with a shotgun and not laser clay pidgeon shooting. Can do activities if you have one other person to drag along. Price range R300-500 p.p per activity.
Then Potch is nearby- some nice clubbing, nightlife options here, but wait for the vacation to be over, else it will be a ghost town.

Bru, if you keen on Sandton Area.. Very upmarket, vibby, trendy spots are Parkhurst, Park Town North, some Parts of Rosebank, Hyde Park, Illovo and Sandton itself. Try the 'Sand Bar' In Sandton. In my opinion Parkhurst is the most trendy spot with the best vibe in Gauteng. Really world class restaurants. Highly recommend Woolf Pack, Coobs, Kraft and the original Turn and Tender in Park Town North. And not just saying that cause it's my hood.
South Africans are generally friendly, nice people. Good luck bru!
Now please tell us you even lift? LOL!
