Pain in leg...which medical specialist?

For awhile now, almost two years, I've had a pain in my leg whenever I train it... Initially I thought it was my hip, but its become more acute, and seems to be 25cm down from my hip bone on the outer side of my leg.

It seems to be getting worse, even after a few weeks off, I can feel it when I sit at my desk and push down on the floor, so assuming its muscular or nerve damage? No pain if I push down on the area.

What would be the best doctor to visit? Don't want to waste money going to a GP if they'll send me elsewhere.

U have to go to the GP who will refer u to a specialist ....

Preferably a GP who has specialised in sports medicine. You're in Cape Town? If you're around the southern suburbs go to Constantiaberg and see Dr Suter. He's excellent.

I work in southern suburbs, so I'll look into it.

Only realized how bad it is today, when I tried to leg press one leg at a time.

He used to be the Proteas team doctor and I think other national level teams as well so he'll sort you out.

Its not even 5km from here, I recon I'll try get an appointment for next week.

I agree with advice to see a doc. Will probably refer you to a Neurologist.

Offhand, it sounds like a sciatica or pinched nerve.

It has obviously progressed hence the constant "pain". Actually nothing wrong with the leg, but because the nerve is irritated, your brain think your leg is damaged.

Do not hesitate to get 2nd or even 3rd opinions. Especially if they want to start cutting (surgery, not Anavar and Primo cycle ) Once surgery has been done, no undo button...

If surgery is the only option then find a Specialist who only does back ops. Do not use an ortho who basically does everything and anything.

Odd you mention that, I did hurt my back this year... Haven't been able to deadlift since.

But the type of pain, I don't think it's related, guess time will tell.

I know an Ortho who jokes about deadlifts. Reckons when he sees a guy in gymn going heavy he phones the Ferrari dealer and puts in an order...

Been to see the doc, bent me in a few odd positions for the various issues I have, he reckons I have a small tear in one of the muscles, and has set me up with a biokinetisist to rebuild.

He reckons I damaged by back, and need to restrengthen the muscles, no slipped disk or anything.

First appointment is tomorrow, so lets see how it goes.
