I was out doing monthly shopping and noticed one for R280. Decided what the heck and took it.
Was expecting a higher reading than my guesstimate- which it was.
I was also expecting a different reading every time i get on- which it was not. It measured me the same every time.
Appart from that it also measures muscle mass, bone density and hydration level.
So even though the bf measurements might be total (not just under the skin) atleast now i have a way of tracking it.

As far as i understand skinfold formula has it that half of total bf is under the skin(which obviously is cutting it a bit thick) where as bioelectrical measurement measures total bodyfat, organ and muscle fat included.
Unfortunately i dont have a skinfold test to compare it to.

Its not that simple, there is a calculation made but there is also a physical measurement of inductance. But yes its just crazy charging people for it.

Ha ha well i hope im under 24% i cant even pin myself somewhere by using example chart as my abdomen will hold fat while my shoulders got good definition. And even if the reading is high compared to skinfold it just gives me an indication to see if i am dropping body fat or not:)

Yes a "pulse" that gets sends through the feet then gives a value worked out by measuring the resistance in the body. Probably goes faster if there is more muscle? Not sure, so many things that has to be taken into account.

Sorry i said inductance but meant impedance.
So not really time measurement but a current measurement with constant voltage and body as variable resistor.

Only thing I trust is skin fold measurements taken with calipers by a suitably qualified/experienced person.

ice-rip wrote: So went to dischem and got the best scale for R225. Measured stats about 10 times and the weight comes in consistent however the bf varies from 12.7% to 13.9%.
Would never thought I'm that low. Can one be that low without abs showing?
Yes it is possible, 12% is not that low. Buddy of mine is probably at 10% and he has little to no definition on abdominal area. Rest of his body is very lean and vascular. He drinks a lot btw

ice-rip wrote: Is that an ok ish bf to start a cycle then or should one wait for visible abs
It should be 12% or less(measure by calipers rather). Abs is just used for a rough estimate, you can for example have a lot of fat on upper legs and still have visible abs. It's about the overall(whole body) fat percentage, so you can do a cycle without abdominal definition.
