Howsit, ya so I am having a very heated debate with a friend of mine, unfortunately I literally could not string my ideas into coherent sentences and am now pretty pissed off by his claims.

He is saying that the health repercussions from insulin spikes are bad for us in the long run no matter what, and that steroid use is bad for us health wise in the long run no matter what.

Now I am not really too informed on the insulin debate but I still think insulin spikes are fine if used correctly and within a well constructed diet, and in the long this is fine. Can anyone with proper pubmed knowledge weigh in on this?

And the next point, it basically hinged on steroids being the cause of cancer/lymphoma, I said there are no published articles proving it, which to my knowledge there are not.

Look he will only be convinced by proper evidence, if anyone has anything that shows he is wrong please post it and/or explain why.

Were you guys talking about insulin spikes from diet or from injections?

If it was about diet he's wrong. With the diets we use its designed to limit insulin spikes throughout the day and the spike we plan for only occurs post-training with a very small amount of glucose compared to what the average person uses in a day. The 60g of dex we use in post-workout shakes equates to just 1 bottle of coke that the average Joe would have multiple times a day excluding all the other high GI carbs people ingest which spike insulin. Our insulin only gets secreted once a day compared to the 3-6 times that of the average Joe with the spikes being the same. We're less likely to be diabetic as we're not abusing our pancreas like the average Joe.

If it was about injections then it depends on the dose really which I have no idea how much a cc of insulin equates to how much would be released per gram of glucose ingested. If the dose is similar to what would be secreted after our post-workout shake then the same argument applies, if its much higher he may have a point but would the risk be any higher than that of the average joe who secretes the same total amount of insulin in a day than the bodybuilder injects in a single go? Maybe.

On the steroids/lymphoma link as far as I know the onus is on him to provide a study linking the two if he wants to make such a bold claim

Sorry guys Apparently it is true, cause its happened to certain people already, so I’m not taking any chances !!

Yes we were talking about diet, and that was my arguement basically. With regards to the steroids, I said it is up to him to provide evidence, to which he said he would.

As mentioned...just put forward the fact that most people down soda like water a few times a day...if anything bodybuilders have fewer high insulin spikes (natties) than most people that eat and drink unhealthy. His argument is flawed.

If on the juice...I got nothing on that.
