That law came into effect a few years ago but not sure about it having to be 2 shots as stated above. Since he admitted to killing her at the very least he'll get done in for culpable homicide, his career's definitely over

Sorry guys Apparently it is true, cause its happened to certain people already, so I’m not taking any chances !!

If you can prove that your life was in immediate danger and the only way for you to survive was to shoot the other person then you don't need a warning shot. But trust me when I tell you that is not the easiest thing to prove and the courts really don't like it.

If i find someone in my house, I'm going to shoot him right there. I'll shoot the warning shot into the ceiling afterwards.

Bandit, you are correct. You must show that your life was in grave danger, then a warning shot is not always necessary. There were instances where a warning shot was shot through the roof and the person was also accused of firing a weapon in an unsafe direction. Sily, but it is the law.

Regarding the storing of the 38spl.

Even if it was his dad's, a letter from his dad will not cut it. He needs a storage permit, signed and stamped by an DFO (designated Firearms Officer) at his local police station. You have to give a motivation on that as well why you want this storage permit.
Anybody who owns a gun or is applying for a license knows what a schlep it is to motivate etc for a licence. I have 2 applications that must go in in the next 2 weeks, I tell you, they want to know basically everything.

Rather shoot into the floor or cupboard etc. You must be able to prove that you fired a shot that had ZERO risk of hitting somebody. firing in the ceiling means that bullets still must come done, hence the firing in an unsafe direction. This was greatly debated between people when I did my dedicated hunter and sport shooter qualifications.

In this country, criminals have more crime than their victims. Police and judiciary making a massive deal over the Oscar case when I just heard read that a group of gang rapists who sexually assaulted the daughter of a Western Cape Councillor were out on bail of R500. Its *&^$#$ sickening. I will say it again, the laws of this land and the government of this country are out to protect the criminals pure and simple.

One could argue whether murder is a worse crime than rape but I thought both charges have no chance of getting bail?

Yes, but on the other hand statistics show that firearm owners are often killed with their own weapons. It's a hard one I tell you.

Many rape victims often say that they would have preferred to be killed instead. I've never been raped or killed, so I really cannot say which one is worse.

in my opinion rape is worse because most rapist will give a death sentance with some kind of sickness you have to live with for the rest of your life.

Make no mistake if I find someone in my house that fucker is going down!! I just won't shoot him in the back or in the head cause then you are making things difficult for yourself. I am just telling you guys what the law says and the law is very strict on gun control. Also admin if you shoot your warning shot second, they can know which shot was fired first. So if you do that then be sure to grab the bullets and the cartridges and dispose of properly. ;) Personally for me I would make sure no one finds that body. And I don't see why anyone would come knocking on my door if the dude was breaking in- I mean what the hell was a guy from Mamelodi doing in my house in the first place??

The whole owning a gun thing is a very personal decision to make. I have a buddy who was highjacked and has since gotten a gun... At this stage, in my own view, it's not on the cards for me.

Having a gun to protect yourself is good... but the chances of you being able to use it for protection are low... if you stop at a stopstreet and you weren't paying attention and all of a sudden there is a guy with a gun against your head... you can't get your gun out in time then. If you are sleeping and they get in without waking you, again you can't get it in time if they wake you up with the barrel against your head.

however, if you feel edgy driving home (as my uncle did once) and you have your gun at the ready when you stop you can scare them off... or if you hear a noise at night you can make ready...

It all depends on the situation.

Really? How do they determine that?

Will they even bother with so much trouble if you shoot a nobody that broke into your house? I can see forensics being used on a high profile case like this one or if your story doesn't sound credible...

As you said, it is a very personal decision. You must also know that before you pull that trigger, are you prepared to take the consequences?

Alos, just remember, when you shoot someone in your house, even if it is legitimate self defence, your gun will be confiscated by the police (as well as any other guns that you have) and ballistics run on them. Only if no other record is found, and you are found not guilty and that you acted in SD, will your guns bereturned to you.

Most definitely. It is a violation of the highest degree and something that will always impact on your uqalift of life. Irrespective of whether rape is seen than less of a crime in comparison to murder; the fact that an accussed rapist can be released on bail equating to a mere R500 (less than a traffic fine for driving without a license) is indicative of the problem with SA's judicial system. Also, high profile case or not, is it not entrenched in our constitution that all people, irrespective of race, creed or status, should be treated equally?

I think it has to do with the heat of the barrel of the gun and the score on the bullet... Once again I speak under correction.

Oscar Pistorius will be in court this morning to continue his bail hearing. This morning's report that the investigating officer in the case is himself facing attempted murder charges resulted in the National Prosecuting Authority announcing that Oscar's case will now be handled by a special task team to bolster the State's case. - wtf

I am not sure on the science behind it but is it really that hard to believe? I know people in the know and they assure me they can find out which one was shot first, but they will need a forensics team. To be honest, we have a big problem with racism in the police force so if they see a wit ou that shot a black guy there is gonna be issues! Sorry to all but this is my personal opinion. I have seen this many times!
